Overview:Caliope Music Search was founded in April 2007 by an engineer who is also a trained musician; his love of solving complex mathematical problems dovetailed nicely with the need he felt to bring people closer to music. He hired developers who were similarly obsessed, and they worked together to do interesting things with sound. For the first 2.5 years, the company focused on music search, developing algorithms to detect notes in users’ singing and compare them to a rich database of songs. More recently, its staff have parlayed this expertise into the development of music- and entertainment-related iPhone applications, as well as contract work for other companies. Now known as Caliope, the company is still focused on the goal of helping people interact with music, but has diversified to include a variety of other creative pursuits.
