Zakiya Harris was born and raised in the Bay Area of San Francisco, California. While attending college, she worked at a nonprofit organization, Earthseed Consulting LLC, for two years. afterwards, she co-founded and led the marketing team at Hack the Hood, a startup organization in San Francisco. Harris left Hack the Hood in 2011 to start Sh8peshift Your Life. This led to Harris being racially profiling herself andicking various people she would encounter in her city. She attended Houston's segregated white middle school, where she was an average student and considered an introspective. However, after transferring to Houston's public high school, Harris became an AVID student and developed a passion for programming.Harris's first job was as a data entry intern at a small nonprofit.
