Co Owner at Ball & Chain in Miami, Florida. When Zack Bush was ten years old he started day dreaming about nightlife while listening to jazz. Instead of imagining a career in medicine or a life as an astronaut like so many of his classmates, the Miami native knew he would take a different path. Zack quickly learned to play the piano and would talk with family and friends about owning a live music venue one day. He is now one of three partners in the Ball and Chain, a historic venue on Calle Ocho, formerly known as the Tamiami Trail, in the heart of Little Havana. Zack teamed up with his older brother Ben Bush and his lifelong friend Bill Fuller in to renovate and restore the nearly forgotten gem famous for hosting 20th century jazz greats like Chet Baker, Count Basie, and Billie Holliday. Live music ignites the space and the street once again thanks to these three entrepreneurs.Zack and Bill met when they were 12 and formed a bond that would continue through high school at Miami Palmetto Senior High and college at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2000, Bill Fuller of Barlington Group began investing in commercial real estate in Little Havana, a storied Miami neighborhood where more than three million tourists visit every year. As he pushed to revitalize the street, the history of the Ball & Chain spoke to him. He told Zack they had to “bring it back to life.” Years later they have made this dream a reality. The venue’s intimate yet sophisticated Pineapple Stage is quickly becoming a fixture for live performances by Miami musicians as well as special guests from around the world. Locals and travelers are welcome to enjoy the music, the classic Cuban-inspired cocktails, and the space without paying a cover. You can find Zack “On the Trail” at the B&C introducing talented jazz musicians, engaging with guests, and even bussing tables. Zack is a hands on owner who interacted and engages guests regularly.
