Film and Commercial Director @ Directors Guild of America Commercial Director @ Finch In the southern hemisphere, I am represented by the amazing Michael Hilliard, Rob Galluzzo, Karen Bryson, and Roy De Giorgio for commercials and branded entertainment. We have been around the world together a few times... Sydney, Australia Auckland, New ZealandMusic Video Director @ FM Rocks Lots and lots of rock videos, represented by Scott Kalvert and Yvette Lang Einczig. From January 2003 to March 2006 (3 years 3 months) Executive Assistant to Susanne Preissler @ Propaganda Films Worked an executive assistant to Susanne Preissler, executive producer of Propaganda Independent, and cut my teeth on commercial campaigns. Directors I directly worked with included Doug Liman, Bryan Singer, Alfonso Cuaron, Lasse Hallstrom, Frank Oz, Dave Veloz, Russell Carpenter, and even Joey Pantoliano...aka Joey Pants. Susanne was very tough, but I am grateful for all that she taught me. Respect. From August 1999 to December 2001 (2 years 5 months) Tony Scott's assistant @ Scott Free Films Worked for the brilliant Tony Scott on Enemy of the State and initial prep for Spy Game...along with plenty of other secret projects. I was part of his personal core team, which included Pete Toumasis and Jerry Heiss. These are the times that changed my life...rest in peace Tone. So much love, so many memories. From June 1997 to August 1999 (2 years 3 months) Film, Television, and Commercial Director @ RSA Films From RSA Films - "Zach Merck is a filmmaker whose work depicts unique, authentic stories and interesting people who take viewers to the far corners of the planet. Whether scripted, documentary or his forte of real people/hidden camera, he draws the best performances out of talent to experience the story through their eyes. Merck’s appreciation of talent stems in part from beginning his career in Hollywood with director Tony Scott, who on his sets for Enemy of the State and Spy Game, taught him about the process of working with actors and how to move the camera. From there Merck built his early career as a producer.Merck segued into directing full time on music videos and then he spent over a decade filming hundreds of commercials, documentaries and branded films. Merck’s work has been honored by the Cannes Lions, CLIOS and One Show, and earned him a DGA nomination for Outstanding Directorial Achievement. His award-winning feature documentaries include For the Love of Music: The Story of Nashville (ABC), Racing Under Green (Discovery), Six Beers of Separation (Fox Australia), The Art of Walking (Nat Geo) and Punk Like Me (SXSW Audience Award 2006)." West HollywoodPartner, EP, and Filmmaker @ MAKE I have directed successful commercial campaigns, branded content, and television shows for clients such as Chevy, NFL, Travelocity, Liberty Mutual, GMC Trucks, Febreze, Ram Trucks, Barista Bros Coffee, The Royal Australian Air Force, Cadillac, Hahn Super Dry, Humana, Huggies, Chevy Spark, Dominos Pizza, Volkswagen, Tooheys Extra Dry Beer, Southwest Airlines, Ford, Chevy Silverado, Audi, Microsoft, Doritos, Hewlett Packard, and many more.I love to direct music videos under representation of Jason Valen. Artists I have worked for include Muse, Rod Stewart, Celine Dion, My Chemical Romance, Michael Franti, Bad Religion, Pantera, Blue October, Safetysuit, Thrice, and way too many punk rock bands to list....I have done several feature length documentary films including Music Calls Us Home, Six Beers of Separation, The Art of Walking, and Punk Like Me.The Price on Henry James' Head is my brand new short film - www.vimeo.com/zachmerck/henryshead From January 2013 to December 2017 (5 years) Los AngelesDirector @ @radical media The turning point...under the representation of Dana Locatell, Frank Scherma, Jen Heath, Sidney Beaumont, and Maya Brewster. In Australia, I was with Rob Galluzzo and Michael Hilliard. From March 2006 to February 2012 (6 years) Los AngelesDirector of Production @ Hypnotic An amazing company, run by David Bartis, Doug Liman, Liz Hamburg, and Daniel Gossels. Here I executive produced the Terry Tate Office Linebacker campaign, the first Chrysler Million Dollar Film Festival, the pilot of the OC, and a bunch of other cool projects with my wingman Pete Soldinger...including a wild week with Bobcat Goldthwait, and one strange conversation with Woody Allen in Cannes. Before Hypnotic, we were called Nibblebox, and we helped film majors in college create their own ideas, and presented their films online when Quicktimes took 20 minutes to load. A lot of great people came out of those times - Jared Stern the screenwriter, Rachel Bilson the actress from the OC, and Justin Bartha...the guy they are trying to find in the Hangover who also was Nick Cave's sidekick in the National Treasure films. Good stuff. From 2001 to 2004 (3 years) Film, Television, and Commercial Director @ Supply&Demand I direct national commercials and branded films for Tim Case, Dana Locatell, and the team at Supply&Demand Los Angeles, California, United States
