I am interested in working with rendering algorithms, image processing, or other interesting problems that might or might not be graphics related. By putting theories and algorithms to practice, I'm constantly trying to learn and polish my skills in the craft of programming. My goal is to both deepen my knowledge in the programming languages and practices I already have experience with as well as widen my horizon by trying to learn new languages and frameworks.
Something I also enjoy is debugging software and refactoring code.
At the end of my masters program in Media Technology, I did a thesis about Hair Modeling, Simulation and Rendering algorithms. I worked with the VFX studio Fido Film to create a procedural hair plugin for Autodesk Maya in C++ using CUDA and Qt, which renders a real-time preview of hundreds of thousands of hair-strands in the 3d-viewport. The hair is then rendered identically using a procedural RenderMan plugin. This work resulted in a talk at Siggraph 2011 called "SpeedFur: a GPU based procedural Hair & Fur modeling system".
I'm also involved in Cloudbase, a web-company I co-founded and worked for before I moved to the bay area.
