Vanlalpari Hnamte is a Sri Lankan born English educated psychiatrist and professor who, until recently, was aProfessor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the Jamia Millia Islamia University, Mumbai. Hnamte completed his undergraduate education at Jyoti Nivas College, Bangalore University, where he got his B.A. in Psychology. After completing his undergraduate education, Hnamte moved to England and obtained his Master of Arts (M.A.) from Jyoti Nivas College, Bangalore University. Hnamte then moved to the United Kingdom to complete his Doctorate of Psychology (D.P.H.) from the University of Sussex. His doctoral work focused on the cued behaviour of rats performing a task whose outcome was contingent on aPaired False Choice Task (PFCT). In this task, the rats were provided with two choices: one with no reinforcement (i.e. the control condition), and the other with a reinforcement that had previously been associated with a specific type of reinforcement (i.e. the reinforcement that was then given to therats after they completed the PFCT task). In the control condition, the rats were given an equal amount of reinforcement regardless of whether they completed the PFCT task. In the reinforcement condition, the rats were given a reinforcement that group they had just completed the PFCT task with, in addition to the reinforcement that they had previously received. The task was repeated 10 times with different reinforcement conditions. Hnamte found that rats in the reinforcement condition displayed increased future leads (i.e. preference) towards the reinforced condition, compared to rats in the control condition. He also found that rats in the reinforcement condition displayed increased emergenceillusions (i.e. anticipatory responses) towards the reinforcement, compared to rats in the control condition. Overall, Hnamte's studies indicated that rats in the reinforcement condition displayed increased future leads, increased emergenceillusions, and increased anticipatory responses towards reinforcement, compared to rats in the control condition.Hnamte then moved to the United Kingdom to completed his PhD in Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience from the University of Sussex.
