In his most recent engagement as President of inVentiv Communications, the world's second largest network of Healthcare Communications agencies, Tom designed and implemented a significant restructuring across 9 separate operating companies, resulting in dramatic profit growth for private-equity-owned inVentiv Health.
Prior to joining inVentiv, Tom was CEO of Young & Rubicam in North America, responsible for the agency’s largest region, overseeing its operations in New York, Toronto, Chicago, LA, San Francisco, Kansas City and Austin. During his four-year tenure in this role he drove double-digit revenue and profit growth, led a digital transformation and a dramatic improvement in the agency's creative product.
Before Y&R, Tom spent the bulk of his advertising career at BBDO where he led that agency’s global service of clients like PepsiCo, Motorola, FedEx, Frito-Lay, Lowe’s and Pizza Hut…to name a few. Tom began his career at Grey Advertising, then joined Y&R where, for five years, he led the AT&T International business and KFC. He also spent three years at Ammirati Puris Lintas where he led the UPS business and launched a new office in Chicago to serve Ameritech.
Tom holds a BA in English and American Literature from Brown University and is an avid sailor and skier.
President, InVentiv Communications @ Designed and implemented a significant restructuring resulting in dramatic profit growth for this private-equity owned provider of services to the global healthcare industry. Led a global network of Advertising and Marketing Services Agencies comprised of 9 separate operating companies providing communications services in 40 countries. Agencies included: GSW Worldwide, Palio, Navicor Group, Addison Whitney, Ignite Health, Blue Diesel, PMG, inServ, and Taylor Strategy Partners. From 2012 to 2012 (less than a year) President & CEO, Y&R North America @ Drove the revitalization of a storied Madison Avenue Advertising Agency after years of stagnation. Achieved double-digit revenue and profit growth within two years in the agency's largest region; with offices in New York, Toronto, Chicago, Kansas City, Austin, Irvine and San Francisco. Propelled a dramatic improvement in creative product; reinvigorated business-development; spearheaded the integration of world-class digital capabilities; and drove significant improvement in employee engagement and client satisfaction levels across the region. From 2008 to 2012 (4 years) EVP, Managing Director @ Served as Global Account Leader on several of this agency's key accounts and as a senior member of the global management team. Led BBDO's global service of PepsiCo in 60+ countries across all snacks, beverages and food brands. Led global service of FedEx, Motorola, Pizza Hut, Campbell Soup Company and AIG. Was Integrated Agency Account Leader across 9 Omnicom agencies in service of Lowe's. From 2000 to 2008 (8 years) EVP, Managing Director @ Launched new full-service agency in Chicago to serve Ameritech. Built agency from scratch to 50 people in three months and 100+ in 6 months. Provided full suite of marketing communications services for Residential, Mobile, Cable TV, Home Security, Internet Access, SMB and Enterprise divisions. Was Group Account Leader on the UPS business; Multinational Client Director on Goldman Sachs, and Integrated Global Account Leader on PricewaterhouseCoopers. From 1997 to 2000 (3 years) SVP, Senior Account Director @ Led successful pitch for Bayer Aspirin in the US and developed game-changing work that helped reverse steady business erosion in the face of newer analgesics. Returned the brand to growth after decade-long share declines. Led successful pitch in a global consolidation review in which BBDO gained responsibility for all of Bayer's Consumer Care business around the world, and led the global analgesics and digestive care businesses. Was VP/Account Director leading Campbell Soup Company and CPC/Best Foods businesses globally.
