🎓 Education

Tom Helin is a someone with a unique background in education and work readiness. Starting in 1967 as an Army JROTC/ROTC recruit at Saint Thomas Academy in Minnesota, Helin quickly learned how to communicate and write. He transferred to St. Cloud State University (G) in 1976 after completing his BA in Communication/Journalism. Helin continued to grow as a journalist, assistant managing editor at the St. Cloud Times, Packer County Newspapers, and then as the executive editor of the St. Cloud Statesman. After leaving the Statesman, Helin returned to school full-time as a professor of communications and Journalism at St. Cloud State University in 1981.Today, Helin is a full professor at STSU, and his expertise lies in teaching communication, Journalism, and Mass Communication methods to students of all levels. Helin has also been able to contribute his voice and expertise to the field of online media and online advertising, both as a keynote speaker and instructor. Outside of his classroom work, Helin has been involved in multiple civic, charitable, and musical organizations. He has even created a unique course, awarded by the National Communication Association, on the history and principles of social media.Helin's journey as an educator has been a successful one. He has taught students of all levels of interest and experience how to communicate and write, and has helped them develop their critical thinking and communication skills. His experience and knowledge of the fields of online media and online advertising have been leveraged to create courses that are currently being taught all over the United States.
