I am an experienced mechanical engineer with a focus in developing software for human centered robotic applications. I have extensive experience in the design and testing of robotic medical devices. I am experienced in funding my own research teams through government grant opportunities to fund development of novel technologies and new IP for the company. I am an experienced manager having lead teams with many levels of experience and education of up to 20 people.
Co-Founder @ I lead our efforts to make light weight, low cost exoskeletons a reality. I lead both the technical and business development as we make a new type of exoskeleton that is constructed entirely out of high strength fabrics and air. These devices present the potential to make the first generation of exoskeletons that really accessible for the average consumer. From January 2014 to Present (2 years) Senior Robotics Engineer @ I work on the system development of low cost inflatable robotics for industrial applications. I am also working to extend what we have learned in the construction and control of pneumatic robotics into the development of powered orthotics. From September 2013 to December 2014 (1 year 4 months) Research Manager @ Oversee the longterm technical research efforts of company. Coordinate and plan research projects inline with technical needs and future commercialization. Fund all my own research work through writing and coordinating government grants from NSF and DoD sources. Manage and provide technical leadership for dedicated research team of up to 15 engineers. From July 2011 to July 2013 (2 years 1 month) Sr. Controls Engineer @ Was part of original 3 person development team for Ekso. Lead control software development focusing on control software for trajectory generation and low level controllers for bipedal walking exoskeleton. Served as first Controls technical lead for the development of the production version of Ekso. Coordinated a small team of 4 engineers working on the embedded controls platform. From February 2008 to July 2011 (3 years 6 months) Design Engineer / CAD Manager @ Designed and coordinated all aspects of residential and commercial land development projects from initial planning stages through construction. Oversaw drafting team of 20 to produce development plans for thousands of acres of land development projects a year. Developed automation software for developing residential development plans that reduced average hours spent per sheet for initial submittal from 12 to 1. From May 2002 to August 2007 (5 years 4 months)
