As a pre-med student at the University of West Georgia, Tim Petty learned the ABCs: abstract, biological, chemical.unknowingly, Petty has also been quite the math whiz. Petty earned his B.A. from UWD in 1998, and his Cadet at the United States Air Force Academy in 1995.Petchy is currently an associate professor at the University of Texas at Dallas, and he's come a long way since his days as a cadet and small farmer. Though he's been in teaching for less than a decade, he's quickly gaining a following among his students and colleagues."One of the things I love most about the job is that I can impact the lives of my students in a lot of different ways," Petty says. "Creating a good learning environment and providing opportunities for meaningful student engagement are two of the most important things I can do as an instructor."Petty has been teaching at UT Dallas since 2005, when he joined the faculty of the School of Veterinary Medicine. His previous Position included a research assignment at Texas A&M University Health Science Center.As an associate professor in the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Texas at Dallas, Petty teaches undergraduate and graduate students in pathology, ecology, and veterinarian administration.Petty is also widely known for his course work on pathogenesis and injury, and for his work on mumps and other encephalitis viruses.Petty also teaches a course on human antimicrobial resistance, and a course on canine diseases.Though Petty began his teaching career as an undergraduate student, he quickly realized that in order to truly reflect the range of student interests he encountered on a daily basis, he needed to provide a course that was both interesting and engaging."In my previous jobs, I never really took the time to really cover a wide range of student interests," Petty says. "Now, I have a lot more resources at my disposal, and I can really drill down into student interests and explore them in a way that's relevant to their majors."Petty firmly believes that providing an engaging and interesting course is one of the most important things a teacher can do. "Ultimately, we want to be able to connect with our students and help them develop skills that they can use in their personal lives, as well as professionally," Petty says.Though he's only been teaching for a decade, Petty has already made a significant impact on the lives of his students. He's motivated by his belief that a positive learning environment is one of the most important things a teacher can provide. And, in turn, Petty's students have built relationships that can last long after their time as students at UT Dallas.

Born and raised in Big Sandy, Texas, Tim Petty started his career in sales. After a few years of peddling his wares door-to-door, Petty met a woman who introduced him to the energy business. Petty went on to become an account representative at Yellowbook, working with companies such as University of West Georgia and American Electric Power.In 2006, Petty took a leave of absence from his job to become a scientific account executive at Kelly Science. He worked at the company for four years, working on projects that included placing talent for technology companies and medical devices. Additionally, Petty worked as a territory sales representative for Forest Pharmaceuticals and CONMED Corporation.After four years as a sales representative, Petty took a leave of absence from his job to become a physician relations manager at Midtown Express Pharmacy. He worked at the company for one year, managing interactions with customers and employees. Castro was a program manager at West-Ward Pharma/inVentiv Health (on contract), and he was responsible for developing and running marketing and sales programs for the company.In August 2018, Petty joined Cooper Surgical as a territory manager. He worked with the company for two years, helping to increase sales and merchandise sales in the Midwest.In October 2018, Petty took a position as sales representative at Taro Pharmaceuticals.
