Prior to joining the sales force of The Hegewood Company, Taryn Smith worked as a research scientist in the biotechnology industry. Smith's research focused on methods to preparation of recombinant hemoglobin and staining methods for antibody detection. Smith's experiences in the research scientist role taught her the importance of research and the importance of working with others to develop innovative solutions.Smith switch back to graduate school to get her Associates Degree of Applied Sciences in General Studies from Pellissippi State Technical Community College in 2009. Smith was interested in obtaining her degree in Business Management & Accounting from Tennessee Tech University in order to pursue a career in the business world. However, Smith's action plan fell through as she was not offered a job as a research scientist after her D.S. in Business Management & Accounting from Tennessee Tech University was denied.In 2011, Smith switch back to graduate school to get her Certificate of Applied Science in Food Science from the College of Business at Tennessee Tech University. Smith's interest in the food industry stemmed from her experiences working in the research scientist role while at Pellissippi State Technical Community College.
