A versatile Systems Engineer currently working in the Tactical Data Link domain at BAE Systems. Completed the Graduate Development Programme at Thales UK within the Air Operation Systems and Services business unit. Initially worked on support and development of the Intelligence Surveillance Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) Mission Support System (MSS) programme. Subsequently carried out all aspects of Systems and IVV work for the Thales NMS, a programme supplying Tactical Data Link network management solutions to a variety of customers around the world. Prior to joining industry I was a researcher at the Quantum Systems and Nanotechnology group at the University of Exeter, School of Physics. My research involved the recently discovered material 'graphene', hailed a miracle material due to its vastly superior electrical, optical and mechanical properties. Specifically, I investigated the semiconducting properties of partially fluorinated graphene by manipulating the band gap in its electronic structure for use in conventional transistors and other novel applications. I also worked on beta radiation detection and plasma functionalisation using graphitic materials.TDL Engineer @ Systems & Test Engineer in the Tactical Data Links team within the Military Air & Information business at BAE Systems in Yeovil. From September 2015 to Present (4 months) NMS Systems/IVV Engineer @ Thales NMS comprises a portfolio of products that enable operators to plan, monitor and manage multiple Link 16 Tactical Data Link networks simultaneously. My major roles within the Tactical Data Link programme included: Taking NMS Monitor, an entry level solution for simple monitoring of a Link 16 Network, from a requirement baseline through to a functional system. Elicitation of system requirements for major enhancements of the main product line and subsequently turning these into system design. Lead IVV engineer for all projects under the TDL programme, performing software integration, verification, bug clearance and validation of the various products, and performing acceptance testing with various customers both at factory and at operational sites. Also designed and delivered courses for the training of operators. Supported security acceptance testing on-site in Sweden. Installation and configuration support on-site in Norway. Supported the upgrade of two operational sites in Sweden combined with inter-site testing. Provided SME support for the Network Management component of NATO ACCS, providing training for Network Managers from all nations in the replication phase of deployment. Provided technical support to the USAF as part of the capability demonstration exercise Bold Quest in New Mexico. Demonstration of our product integrated with various other Thales systems, at Thales InnovDay 2014 in Paris. Technical support to the Thales stand at CanSec 2014 in Ottawa. Demonstrated Thales products at IDLS 2014 in Berlin. Completed a training course from Ultra-ATS on their ADSI system. Completed Certified Scrum Master training course for Agile working methodologies and practices. Completed training course of Tacplan product delivered by Taccom. Lead Systems and IVV for the porting the NMS software to a Linux based OS. Undertook the technical analysis, systems and IVV work to upgrade the NMS to be compatible with MIDS Terminals running BC07. From August 2013 to September 2015 (2 years 2 months) ISTAR MSS Systems Engineer @ System Component Solution Architect for the ISTAR MSS Project. Responsibilities include requirement derivation and management, system architecture and solution engineering. Competent in DOORS and experience writing dxl. Established point of contact for a key external supplier, ensuring selection of suitable technology to meet our system requirements. Spent time working within the installation team, coordinating the installation, configuration and encryption of 30 portable ISTAR systems ready for delivery to operational sites. Promoted working for the company at various careers and employment fairs at a local university and became a registered STEM ambassador, encouraging young people to follow a career in a technical discipline.
