From November 2008 to March 2013 (4 years 5 months) Sub Contract Manager @ • Subcontract manager on £100M plus defence contract with responsibility for major contracts valued at £35M plus. • Arriving 3 months before the award of a major MOD contract, successfully generated Statements of Work utilising expertise within the Integrated Project Teams, conducted comprehensive tender assessments and negotiated the award and execution of several contracts in a high pressure environment. • Customer facing role with direct responsibility for reporting & briefing on subcontract project performance and negotiating significant contract amendments with immediate financial rewards • Saw new contracts through successful early milestones to the satisfaction of the MoD. From January 2008 to December 2008 (1 year) Managing Director @ • Left Royal Air Force as Wing Commander at end of full service commission and successfully orchestrated growth of family business. • Company Director & 50% shareholder, employing 12 staff, turnover growing from £300K to £1.2M in less than 3 years. • Responsible for all aspects of the business including the management of support contracts, spares procurement, customer service and development of a range of powered mobility products and associated control systems. • Completed successful sell-out to private buyer in October 2006. • Retained on consultancy generating proposals for reorganisation and further growth. • First phase successfully completed with relocation of the core business to Leighton Buzzard. From January 2002 to December 2007 (6 years) Wing Commander - Head of Pegasus Aero-engine Branch - Harrier IPT @ • Managed all aspects of a diverse business unit supporting the Pegasus aero-engine, digital engine control and associated ground test equipment for the Royal Air Force/Royal Navy Harrier aircraft. • Orchestrated the activities of 42 staff which included 9 senior engineers – responsibilities included programme and contract management, risk management, new procurement and re-provisioning, aircraft integration, post design services, airworthiness, safety case, quality, maintenance and overhaul etc. • Managed a £500M+ inventory and controlled annual and support expenditure of £38M. • Set up and managed £100M+ contract for procurement of replacement Mk 107 engine into Harrier GR7 aircraft, including associated aircraft integration tasks. From January 1999 to January 2002 (3 years 1 month) Squadron Leader - Project Manager for Manned Aircraft Feasibility Aircraft Study @ • Programme/contract manager for Future Manned Aircraft Feasibility Study – a £10M package of work looking at a variety of potential solutions for the replacement of the Tornado GR4/Harrier GR9a aircraft. • Activities included generation of SoWs, management of contract using EVM, technical & programme reviews, external tasking to other agencies etc. • Effectively co-ordinated independent research and development undertaken the Defence Evaluation & Research Agency (now QinetiQ).
