I'm a software engineer with strong design and data visualization skills.
I studied architecture and creative writing at Berkeley, worked at a tech incubator in Los Angeles for four and a half years (~3 years in business development, ~2 years in front-end development), and spent three months immersed in JavaScript at Hack Reactor. I'm currently building user interfaces for secure cloud-based applications at Kryptnostic.
While programming is a relatively new pursuit for me, I've been on the web for most of my life, having taught myself HTML and CSS in the age of Geocities. To this day, I still rely heavily on HTML and CSS -- along with a metric ton of JavaScript. Thanks to my decades-long dabbling in web design and a host of other artistic pursuits, I've developed an obsession with details, mostly of the visual and syntactic sort. As such, I relentlessly tweak UIs until they achieve pixel perfection; I enjoy reading and writing modular, well-formatted code; and I identify typefaces out of habit. Beautiful typography makes me really happy.
I like vanilla JS, rounded corners, bright colors, list comprehensions, regular expressions, graphs, and maps. My favorite area of programming is natural language processing.
On a personal level, I love meeting and talking with people. Feel free to get in touch if you'd like to chat about anything mentioned above, as well as any of the following topics: civil rights, being a minority (visible or invisible) in tech, recycling, composting, education, homelessness, housing prices in the Bay Area, water conservation, volunteering, books, stories, music, grammar, armadillos, roller skates, and pickup trucks.
