Hi there! My name is Sara Fernandes and I am a recent graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park with a degree in Computer Science. I have worked in the technology industry for the past few years, most notably as a Technical Recruiter - CX at Cisco. My experience with Talent Acquisition, Recruiter for Customer Experience (CX) at Cisco, allows me to provide valuable perspective on the field and how it interacts with the technology industry.One of the most important aspects of what CX entails is the ability to create an environment that allows employees to feel valuable and appreciated. Too often, the technology industry lures employees in with the promise of high salaries and great work-life balance but often these FALSE promises are not kept. In my experience, the technology industry does not provide these rewards. In fact, many employees feel left out and Consequently, the quality of worklife greatly deteriorates.A big part of the technology industry’s problem is the large number of machines in the workplace.excessive automation has produced a Separation of Powers environment where theboss is in charge and the employees are unable to make decisions that effect their work environment.cx employees are communications channels andlast resort for customer service.Due to this; many employees feel like their claims to work-life balance are ignored.To change this, companies should invest in casting values and giving employees an opportunity to rise to the top. At least half of an employee’s needs must be covered by the company, such as vacation, sick days, and benefits. Additionally, companies should invest in development programs that allow employees to grow and succeed.Lastly, companies should invest in employee training that covers the whole gamut of skills needed for the technology industry. Employees should be shown the ropes on various technologies so that they know what is possible and what is not. Additionally, companies should allow employees to be themselves and not the stereotype that is common in the industry.Overall, I suggest that companies invest in employee development programs that cover everything from the technology industry to development of individual skills. They should also invest in training that helps employees be themselves and be able toiongtain their goals. Lastly, executives should invest in employee training that covers the whole gamut of skills necessary for the technology industry.
