Sam Lee has been working with the World Bank for over three years now. She most recently worked as the Chief of Staff for the Executive Office Division at Goldman Sachs. In her previous job, she was responsible for developing new products and experiences, omni-channel marketing campaigns, process improvements, and scalable systems to accelerate WeWork’s platform growth. Additionally, she was also responsible for mentoring 100+ high potential employees and leading cross-functional initiatives to support member growth and retention. Sam Lee is also a part of the WeWork Leadership Team.Sam Lee is an expert in customer acquisition, engagement, retention, referrals, and account-based growth through data modeling & insight, growth strategy, new product development, and front-line sales and account management. Her main focus is on developing new market entry, pricing, promotional and partnership strategies to deliver triple-digit growth in sales. Additionally, she is responsible for hiring and training WeWork’s first professional sales team. She is also a part of the WeWork Leadership Team.
Sam Lee grew up in the Philadelphia area and earned her undergraduate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania in Political Economy and Spanish Studies. Lee then completed her Masters of Public Policy from Harvard University. After completing her undergraduate degrees, Lee worked in the financial industry before coming to bear interest in public policy. Lee started working as an economist at The Economic Policy Institute in Washington D.C. from 2008-2012. From there, Lee moved to the Department of Housing and Urban Development as a policy advisor from 2012-2015. There, she focused on issues related to public housing and homelessness.Lee then moved to the Department of Commerce in May of 2015 as a senior adviser for Rustle Force, a coalition of small businesses and entrepreneurs. There, she focused on developing new ways to help small businesses succeed. In this role, she engaged in a wide range of discussions with a range of capitalists and policymakers.During her time at the Department of Commerce, Lee also began her work on a book chronicling the history of business during the 20th century. The book is tentatively titled "From Merchant Prince to Megaboss: A Concise History of Business in the Digital Age."At the Department of Commerce, Lee is alsocontinuing her work on "From entrepreneur to CEO: A Practical Guide to Economic Growth." The book is tentatively slated to be published in 2020.Lee's current role at Rustle Force is to help small businesses succeed by developing new ways to help them succeed. The work has taught her a great deal about the business world and has broadened her knowledge of a variety of topics. This experience has prepared her for her future work in the academic world.
