Born and raised on a mixed cropping and livestock farm in the Mallee, South Australia. Having completed my apprenticeship in Mallee farming I pursued my interest in Agricultural research. I studied Biotechnology at Flinders University, then moved to Adelaide University, Waite Campus to undertake Honours in Agriculture. I continued at Waite, completing my PhD, researching 'Black Point', a grain discoloration in wheat and Barley.
After my years in research and farming I pursued a career in agronomy. A period of time in South East South Australia allowed me to gain skills in a range of industries, including Broad Acre Cropping, Pasture, Dairy, Horticulture and Viticulture. Through this period I obtained a strong passion for sustainable agriculture. This in recent years has allowed me to practice agronomy across Tasmania, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.
More recently I took on the role of General Manager with LawrieCo. In this role I was responsible for the technical support of up to six agronomists as well as business development.
Never too far from my farming passion, I started Walker Brothers feedlot in 2009. A cattle operation trading and finishing livestock, predominantly in the South Australian markets.
The purchase of APAL Laboratory in 2014 has allowed me to continue on with my passions in agribusiness, agronomy and research. Assisting farmers, retailers and research bodies around Australia with soil, plant and water testing services, agronomy and research projects. Sharing my passion for sustainable profitable production.
