From 2011 to Present (4 years) President & CEO, Tax & Accounting Division @ One of the four divisions of Thomson Reuters, a $12B public company (NYSE: TRI), Tax & Accounting is a global provider of tax & accounting software, consulting services and information to tax & accounting professionals globally. Under my leadership, the company grew revenues from $480 million in 2004 to $1.1 billion (and global market leadership) in 2011, a CAGR of 14%, and grew its employee population from 2,300 US employees to 5,500 employees worldwide. After executing a strategic plan to aggressively enter the SaaS software market, expand internationally, and expand/create the multi-national corporate tax software market, the company grew to become the global leader in its class by 2011. With a 3 year revenue CAGR of only 2% from 2000-2003, during my tenure the company averaged revenue growth rates in the mid-teens for 5 consecutive years. During this period, the company tripled its annual new sales dollars, significantly improved renewal and retention rates, and more than doubled the size of its sales force. During this time, organic growth rates in the high single digits was complemented by the investment of over $900M in acquisition spending to successfully acquire and integrate 34 separate companies. Only 2 of the acquired companies did not meet pre-acquisition IRR projections, and the company's acquisition and integration programs were duplicated throughout Thomson Reuters as a best practice. In addition, starting with a US-only presence in 2004, we entered and built direct operations in 12 countries worldwide. In software and consulting, over 75% of the company's revenues are now derived from software products and related services, while expansion into multinational corporate tax market resulted in over 70% of the Fortune 500 as customers. Most importantly, within Thomson Reuters, the company routinely led all divisions in employee engagement scores, and was a widely admired exporter of executive talent to other Thomson Reuters divisions. Led the company's successful entry into global news with the successful acquisition of NewsEdge, and its successful integration with Thomson after its acquisition in 2000. From 2001 to 2004 (3 years) Executive VP & Chief Strategy Officer, Legal & Regulatory Group @ Guided the overall growth and expansion strategy for the $2.9 billion legal, regulatory and tax information group of Thomson, including the global acquisition strategy. Personally led the company's successful global expansion of Westlaw into 22 countries. Was also named the first general manager of the company's $75 million Latin America business, after the successful acquisitions of La Ley in Argentina and IOB in Brazil. From 1998 to 2001 (3 years) Executive VP Strategic Marketing, Online Division - West Information & Publishing Group @ After the creation of the online division to manage and lead the growth of Westlaw, led the functions of marketing, branding, pricing, product development, data technology, online technology and Internet development. Was responsible for the successful development and commercial launch of the first web version of Westlaw, www.westlaw.com, as well as the re-branding of Westlaw. From 1997 to 1998 (1 year) Executive VP & Chief Operating Officer, Market Centers - West Information & Publishing Group @ Integrated 5 sales organzations to form Thomson Legal Publishing,and then merged Thomson Legal Publishing with the West Publishing sales organization, subsequently leading a 1,200 person sales, marketing and product development organization.
