Notable achievements: • Introduced a robust financial framework and a sustainable business model • Successfully concluded the implementation of a merger with another Engineering body and restructured both staff and volunteer member organisations • Refocused publishing strategy, secured IP and rights to knowledge management platforms, and invested in digital content • Developed a new global expansion strategy focused on India and China, concluded high level agreements with the Chinese Government and its Professional bodies • Re-imaged the charity, transformed web offering and re-launched flagship magazine • Facilitated Trustee Board effectiveness review, redefined Trustee roles and overhauled governance From January 2007 to April 2009 (2 years 4 months) London, United KingdomManaging Director Grangemouth @ Accountable for the Petrochemical and Refining site at Grangemouth which was a very large and complex manufacturing site comprising a Refinery supplying all transport fuels in Scotland and the Forties pipeline system (a key piece of UK infrastructure transporting 1/3 of UK oil production), and one of the top five petrochemical sites in Europe. At that time the site employed ~1800 employees with 1000 – 3000 contractors. In this role I ran the site as a single business on behalf of several BP divisions and partners and delivered a transformational programme which improved profitability, operational and HSEQ performance. Concluded successful negotiations to divest the site to a third party. Managed stakeholder, staff and union reaction to sale. From 2004 to 2006 (2 years) Chief Executive Officer @ This high-density polyethylene joint venture (JV) had manufacturing facilities in 5 locations across Europe, a RD&T centre in Brussels, European sales office and HQ in London. The JV became the market leader in many market sectors globally and one of the top three HDPE producers in Europe with sales of 1.25 million tonnes, turnover of €1bn and 1200 employees across the UK, France, Belgium and Italy. I was accountable for the project to bring the JV together, appoint its leadership team, make it operational, capture the synergies and re-image to create a leading polymer company. All milestones were delivered with synergies considerably exceeding expectations. All customers transferred successfully without loss of business and a single CRM system installed. From 2001 to 2003 (2 years) European Business Unit Leader @ P&L accountability for BP Chemical's High Density Polyethylene manufacturing and Technology Licensing business. Very large producer with production assets all over Europe and Licensees of BP's world-class Gas Phase Polyethylene Technology globally.
