My aviation management experience spans more than three decades, and the mix of experience I possess is varied and distinctive. During my career, I have developed a broad spectrum of knowledge of the challenges that face commercial service airports of all sizes. Even though the majority of my airport knowledge was gained during my tenure at the world’s busiest airport, my work with the United Nations and Aviation Strategies has given me direct experiences with the full spectrum of airports. I have had direct involvement with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and Airports Council International’s (ACI) efforts to develop a new generation of worldwide airport leaders through the adherence of the principals and best practices of modern airport management.
One of the most salient aspects of my professional career is my unwavering commitment and passion for aviation.
Vice-President, Consulting Services @ I have executive responsibilities focused upon aviation advisory services. In this role, I lead a team of seasoned aviation professionals in providing airports and governments with corporate level strategic advice and consulting services in the field of civil aviation. Current projects are focused upon strategic orientation and business planning; airport management; infrastructure development; and strategic advice to organizations experiencing major performance difficulties.
Additionally, I am an instructor for International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) - Airports Council International (ACI) - Global Airport Management Professional Accreditation Program, which is a joint initiative between the two international aviation organizations. The program seeks to develop a new generation of world-wide airport leaders in all functional areas through adherence to principles and practices of modern airport management. My specific areas of expertise include Strategic Planning, Infrastructure Development, Operations, Safety, Security, and Air Transportation Systems. As an instructor, I must demonstrate not only my technical knowledge in the particular airport subjects but also how that knowledge can be applied to redesign entire organizations and lead multiple change programs. From August 2011 to Present (4 years 5 months) Montreal, Canada AreaInterim General/Deputy General Manager @ Direct responsibility for operations, administration, planning and development of Hartsfield-Jackson. The organization reached revenues in excess of $435M and employed more than 1,000 dedicated professionals. Fostered a positive vibrant culture that appropriately balanced accountability, responsibility and authority with delivered results. Demonstrated a strong track record as a driver of operational improvement during a major capital program. Key objectives included: completing the Airport’s new $1.4B international terminal on time and within budget; increasing revenues; and improved efficiency to ensure a healthy fiscal future for the organization. Demonstrated leadership in a culture that promoted exemplary customer service, addressing the needs of internal and external customers in a way that was timely, courteous, responsive, consistent and complete. From June 2010 to July 2011 (1 year 2 months) Greater Atlanta AreaGeneral Manager, Operations, Maintenance and Security @ Responsibility for overall day-to-day operations of the world’s busiest airport with a budget of $150M and more than 700 employees. Directed eight business units comprised of Operations, Maintenance, Security, Centralized Communications Control Center, Automated People Mover, Airport Ground Transportation, Atlanta Police Department Airport Precinct, and Atlanta Fire and Rescue Department, Airport Fire Services. Ensured the airport was compliant with international, federal, state and local standards and recommended practices. Responsible for the creation and implementation of strategy across the various business units to increase operational efficiency to achieve corporate strategic goals. As the primary unit with customer contact responsibilities, focused upon attitude, appearance, awareness and knowledge for direct customer in promoting consistent and quality customer care. From September 2006 to June 2010 (3 years 10 months) Director of Marketing and Business Development @ Led the Department of Aviation’s comprehensive marketing efforts to generate additional revenue through new and/or expanded services. Assisted revenue generating business units in increasing revenues through national partnerships and cross-promotional efforts. Planned and coordinated economic development activities with related federal, state and local organizations. Cultivated an understanding of customers’ requirements through surveys and focus groups to ensure a proactive customer orientation was an organization-wide attribute. From December 2005 to September 2006 (10 months) Greater Atlanta AreaDirector of Marketing, Public Relations and Intergovernmental Affairs. @ Led the Division’s efforts to increase positive media coverage for the Department of Aviation, the Airport General Manager, the Mayor, and the City, along with assisting in the promotion of the Airport. As one of the Airport’s official spokespersons to the media, influenced perspectives among community leaders and elected officials regarding the Airport, being particularly sensitive to the challenges and opportunities pretaining to the Airport’s impact upon the region. Engaged others to increase performance and built rapport across multiple levels and cultures to promote the Airport’s objectives. Built support systematically and at multiple levels, including all stakeholders, to achieve long-term airport goals. Led the Division in obtaining and documenting customer’s perceptions of the quality of care experienced during their time at the airport and provided quantitative information to stakeholders and worked with internal and external units to improve overall level of customer service. From January 2002 to December 2005 (4 years) Greater Atlanta AreaPresident @ Provided airports, air carriers, and aviation related industries with in-depth analysis and planning for market and air service development, bi-lateral international air service agreements, and revenue generation. Worked with airport clients to develop airline-negotiating strategies designed to achieve annual and long-term financial goals. Developed, implemented, and supported business strategies in an airport environment for facility and site improvements. From September 1999 to January 2002 (2 years 5 months) Greater Atlanta AreaRoute Development Manager @ Developed and implemented global air route development efforts to increase cargo and passenger air service at the world’s busiest passenger airport. Involved in numerous discussions and negotiations with many of the worlds’ major air carriers and successfully developed new airline services to Atlanta, including the first direct service to Southeast Asia, the Netherlands and Latin America.
