Sales Associate @ Bedford Modern School Shop
Shop Employee providing helpful advice for new students and parents, organising stock and managing some orders. From August 2015 to August 2015 (1 month) Service Improvement Intern @ I was assigned to the award winning London Cycle Hire Scheme. One of SERCO's flagship contracts.
A work placement within the Service Management Function, specifically Service Improvement. I focused on innovation within the scheme and the refinement of internal and external operations. One of my assignments included assembling the Annual Operating Plan 2015. From June 2015 to August 2015 (3 months) London, United KingdomFundraising & Challenges Coordinator @ In 2014 Karnival (11 Exec and 121 Reps) successfully raised £1,766,528.26 for various charities and causes!
My main responsibility was to sign up and send over 200 students abroad to climb Mt.Kilimanjaro, cycle from London to Paris and many more adventurous trips. Each student would also have to raise a certain amount of cash for the given charity and it was my role to support them throughout the process. I was responsible for communicating and cooperating with the number of different charities that offered some support for the students too. We managed to raise thousands of pounds towards some fantastic charities and causes. In 2014 we had our lowest ever drop out rate of just 2%, in comparison to 12% in 2013.
In October 2014 I successfully signed up over 130 students to year long fundraising challenges who will raise in excess of £380,000.00 for charity by December 2015.
My role also included:
- Interacting and building working relationships with nearly a dozen charities and a challenge services.
- Planning, marketing and organising a promotional campaign for numerous student challenges.
- Creating innovative new ways to connect the fundraiser with the charity and encourage even greater fundraising
- Monitoring and supporting all UoN students fundraising for Karnival related events or challenges.
- Organizing numerous Karnival fundraising events, such as the Nottingham Sport Relief Mile.
- Assisting the rest of my Committee with any other Karnival events
- Engaging and inspiring the Karnival Representatives to involve themselves in the events, challenges and campaigns. From January 2014 to December 2014 (1 year) Student Fundraising Intern @ In the short period I was at Dementia UK I fully immersed myself in a series of tasks. These included providing additional input while researching the process and timeline of a student fundraiser and the relationship they maintain with the charity. I also provided some ideas and suggestions for the upcoming Student RAG conference 2014.
I also was provided the opportunity to pitch possible corporate partners that I felt were possible to the corporate fundraising manager. Through this I greatly developed my understanding of corporate partnerships, marketing and business relationships. From July 2014 to July 2014 (1 month) London, United KingdomCommunity Fundraising Intern @ As the Community Intern I was given tasks from the fundraising, events and communications areas of the charity. My first task included a series of pitches of my ideas for the up coming student RAG conference 2014, making sure I provided a budget, logistical plan and theme. I also put together welcome packs and helped rearrange the departments stock room.
I underwent training on the database system, Raiser's Edge. I continued to develop my ability and aptitude to use the system after a series of data entry tasks. A few of these tasks included the process that is required to claim gift aid. I am now confident with the software.
I was also introduced and trained on a communication analysis software, Media Platform Plus Precise. This allows the user to quickly analyze their company's, in this case a charity's, success in the press, it's value and in what specific areas of the charity it comes from. From July 2014 to July 2014 (1 month) London, United KingdomRepresentative @ My role within a team of five other representatives included selling tickets for Karnival events, promoting and advertising these events as well fundraising challenges, such as climbing Mt.Kilimanjaro. As a team representing our hall of residents, we raised over £78,000 for various charities and causes. In December 2013 I was awarded Best Male Rep 2013 which I am still very grateful for. From January 2013 to December 2013 (1 year) Bar Tender @ From June 2013 to September 2013 (4 months) Barista @ Preparing hot and cold drinks, food orders and serving customers. Maintaining good relations with numerous regular customers and local businesses was essential to ensure the prosperity of the business. From June 2008 to September 2012 (4 years 4 months) Volunteer @ My responsibilities each day was to organize and various activities for the visitors to get involved and make sure their day at Gidside was an enjoyable one. This varied from den building, sporting activities and arts and crafts. My role also included safeguarding visitors during these activities and also providing them with any information they might desire about Gibside, its history and the seasonal events. From August 2012 to August 2012 (1 month) Restructuring & Research Intern/Graduate Assistant @ My role as an intern was to help a team of graduates with a variety of tasks. My first responsibility was to review and analyze the Wall Street Journal and Financial Times each morning, then send my findings to the entire London office.
I also was at hand to help with the current restructuring project where I organized and checked the shareholders details and the nature of their claims. I was also introduced to the financial restructuring of small enterprises, such as hotels. It was a insightful and revealing experience into the competitive and meticulous nature of accountancy. From June 2011 to July 2011 (2 months) London, United KingdomTechnology & Security Intern @ I shadowed a manager within the Technology & Client Software department. This was more valuable work experience in a global bank's office. My responsibilities included condensing masses of information and data, analyzing the reliability of software and presented my conclusions to the manager's team. I learnt about the volatility of shares and the fragile relationship between the bank and their traders. It was fascinating to see our reliance on certain software and the severe multiplier effect that can occur if these processes fail or glitch. From June 2011 to June 2011 (1 month) London, United KingdomRisk Management Intern @ I interned for a manager within the Risk department, based in London. It was a short week long internship where the manager told me about various aspects of Risk, he included me in various meetings and conference calls, and gave me data to analyze and present to him at the end of the week. I looked at various case studies, such as a 'Toxic Pairs' and recorded data at the time from India, UK and USA financial activity.
This was my first experience in an lively and professional office environment. It was hugely beneficial experience because I was able to speak to various people about their day to day routine, including meetings, international conference calls and team sessions.
