Software Engineer @ Sun Microsystems Developed next-generation configuration management system for Sun hardware design organization. Utilized Java, DBMS, client-server, and distributed systems technologies to enable engineering teams in geographically distributed sites to collaborate in real-time on design, data and release management. From October 2003 to June 2006 (2 years 9 months) Software Architect @ Skyhigh Networks Developed a hosted, multitenant data pipeline to ingest and analyze shadow-IT traffic data for customers of Skyhigh's market-leading Cloud Access Security Broker. The pipeline runs 24/7, processes terabytes of data daily, and is designed to be scalable, SLA-driven, and fault-tolerant. Architected and implemented a REST-ful data service to isolate the data storage details from the pipeline job logic, resulting in a refactored system that is more efficient, maintainable and upgradable. Drove adoption of unit testing and code reviews within the R&D team to increase the overall quality, coverage and confidence in the code base.Technologies used in the project include the Hadoop ecosystem (HDFS, HBase, Map/Reduce, Oozie, Avro), Kafka, Elastic Search, MySQL, Crate, Spring, Eureka, JSON and REST. From November 2015 to October 2016 (1 year) Campbell, CAPrincipal Software Engineer @ ArcSight, an HP Company For seven years, I was the principal developer of the rules engine that is the central nervous system of ArcSight ESM’s industry-leading real-time event correlation technology. In that role, I made significant improvements to performance, concurrency, event throughput, and manageability, and implemented numerous feature enhancements to enable simpler and more robust solution authoring capability. My work entailed frequent engagement with customers and PS to solve problems in the field and identify pain points to guide product enhancement; extensive collaboration across dev teams and with QA and Doc; and mentoring of junior team members. I presented my work at three user conferences. • Collaborated with developer of third-party library (OPSJ) to communicate ArcSight requirements, design API’s and drive the technology integration.• Delivered set of feature enhancements to enable creation of behavior-based anomaly detection solutions in financial and defense industries.• Filed pending patents for methods in distributed event correlation and automated asset management based on network traffic analysis. From April 2008 to October 2015 (7 years 7 months) Sunnyvale, CAPlatform Architect @ TrueDemand Software • Designed scalable platform for next generation supply chain optimization application for consumer goods retail sector.• Led effort to improve performance dramatically for daily processing of large scale production data volume (millions of product-location combinations processed in restricted time window). Performance effort included caching, clustering, database schema optimization, and application server platform tuning, and led to >25X improvement.• Implementation technologies included Spring, Hibernate, EJB, JMS, Web services/SOAP.• Application deployed in production on IBM Websphere, SAP Netweaver, and JBoss platforms.• Acted as liaison between engineering and science teams, integrated advanced mathematical forecasting algorithms into application.• Provided leadership and mentoring to offshore development team including design conference calls and code reviews. From June 2006 to April 2008 (1 year 11 months) Los Gatos, CASenior Software Engineer @ AirPrism Senior engineer responsible for design and development of J2EE based wireless device management server (WDMS), which enabled a central management console to manage and track PDA’s deployed throughout an enterprise.• Designed XML based wire protocol that provided guaranteed, prioritized message delivery, device authentication, and secure file transfer with checkpoint restart.• Led project team in development of communication and synchronization modules, which facilitated data transmission over a variety of communication channels including 802.11b, GPRS, and CDPD.• Implemented advanced server features including bandwidth management and intelligent data delivery tailored to device profile and communication channel.• Presented communication architecture to technical advisory board. Provided input to product management on a variety of technical issues. From April 2002 to June 2003 (1 year 3 months) Redwood Shores, CASenior Software Engineer @ BEA Developed enhanced features for Weblogic Integration, a J2EE-based B2B messaging server in 2.0 and 2.1 product releases, including recoverability and scalability. • Designed distributed cache management system to enable clustering. • Designed and developed fault injection framework to facilitate automated failure recovery testing. • Performed extensive system tuning for reliability and performance. From October 2000 to October 2001 (1 year 1 month) San Jose, CAMember of Technical Staff @ Sun Microsystems iPlanet Application Server Engineering (2000) • Project lead responsible for iAS 6.0 clustering component, which provided high availability services for J2EE state and session data.• Participated in next-generation J2EE architecture work, including redesign of clustering layer for enhanced scalability and performance.Information Appliance Group (1999 - 2000) Developed clustering extensions for Sun Ray 1.1 release, to facilitate deployment, configuration and management of server pools supporting hundreds of thin clients with minimal downtime. • Implemented distributed load balancing agent to attain optimal resource utilization on heterogeneous server clusters. Cluster Engineering (1996 - 1999) Designed and developed a cluster configuration repository for Sun Cluster 2.0 and 3.0 releases. • Devised two-phase commit algorithm to guarantee consistency among replicated data stores.• Implemented checkpoint and recovery protocol to ensure high availability.• Responsible for complete project life cycle including requirements gathering, design, development, testing and documentation.
