The NetherlandsGuitarist @ The Hide-Out What I do at The Hideout is different than how I function at The Steakhouse Studios or Benchmark Realty. The Studio is for hire and I am paid in Real Estate through commissions or fees. The Hide-Out is a place I hide-out and indulge a purely artistic pursuit of music. The only business currently pending between The Steakhouse, and The Hide-Out, are the where abouts of 2 originally vintage Marshall, subsequently extensively modified to facilitate sonic refinement, heretofore accurately described as: Jose Arrendondo, Arcco Electronics, 1x100 watt, 1x50 watt amp heads. Hopefully well hiddenExecutive Officer @ The Steakhouse Studio I make, and have made decisions when it seems appropriate I should be the one to make them. The nature of these decisions are not normally relevant to recording. My brother Lee Bench is the Chief Engineer and Kelly Musgrave is the Studio Manager. The two of them generally make those types of decisions. I am involved when an issue affects where The Steakhouse is going, or with whom. Tracy Bench, Rex & Yukki Coggins, Aaron Reiff, Steve Lukather, Josh Eagan and Bernard Fowler (sequence of our meeting) are Steakhouse family. Karl Yanchar of Lakeside Associates designed the facility. Ed Russo was Gen. Contractor. Julia Norton Dennis, and Lee Walters contributed invaluable assistance, hence, historically always Steakhouse family. Leslie Kennworthy was key person transaction level. The Benchmark building was developed to facilitate a society created out of our own peers, some of whom have residency upon the second floor. The Steakhouse hosts the Worlds largest E.M.I. Neve, Flying Faders automated, isolated footings, floated floors, suspended ceiling. I, and others, diagnosed Mr. Tanner most informed person vintage Neve internationally. We acquired Geoff's advisement. Mr. Tanner instructed we should purchase the finest tracking console known to him globally. So, we did!I want to acknowledge that the "vibe" at the Steakhouse is created by all of us collectively participating within an inter-building society, moreover, the corporal development of our facility was undertaken to facilitate a collective sense of permanence within our "here today, gone tomorrow" industry. We have been blessed to have enjoyed long-term Tenants such as Brent Woods and Tom Russo whose residency contributes towards a collective media family within the Benchmark Bldg. I disclose at this time, that my linked in photo appearing upon this page was taken, on or about, Sept. 4th 2004 and appears here to facilitate old friends recognizing me, and for sentimental reasons. I disclose my standing in Commercial Real Estate does not come by way of N.A.R. I also participated in a successful, family, modest 7 figure, industrial fee simple land acquisition, on Oahu, wherein we went right side up 750k in a manner more similar to hours than days, and thereafter transacted out for approx. 200% cash relatively shortly. This transaction could have been even more profitable but my extremely ethical Senior Brokers rightly elected to complete closing terms as defined within a verbal pre-existing hand shake, despite the technicality of verbal being void at level of transaction. We had not recorded anything in L.A., however, we needed to start recording someone someway.. My job required me to implement a policy, whereby, we could enter into the field of professional recording based upon our successful prior recording projects. I was eventually able to think of a way. Upon thinking of the method, I became the boss. The essential elements of information concerning this facility involved a large format D.D.A. AMR 24 Console (similar signal path to a Neve V/R subtracted automation), Otari 24trk. Mx80, Otari Mtr 2 & 4 track mix recorder with center track time code, Sequencing Software at MIDI Machine Control Level/SYMPTE, multiple Keyboards, Synths, Drum machines, Time Domain and Frequency Domain processors (Lexicon, T.C. Electronics, Eventide, assorted Compressors), Neumann U87 & U89i professional microphones, several Shure SM 57 & 58 Series Mics., a couple of Sennheiser 421's, various direct boxes, what seemed a lot of cable at that time, and whatever semi-pro gear we were able scare up, which functioned in collaboration with then, advanced synthesis platforms, nearly instantly abandoned by their manufacturers in terms of Tech. Support.I am proud of the friendship I was privileged to enjoy with Chris Jackson, Mark Lever, Rex Coggins, Charlie Pompei, Adam Pollack, Gary Vincent, Nigel Shaw, Michael James, Rocky and my brother Lee, during this special era in Tarzana, San Fernando Valley, wherein so many spectacular precious parties, especially, including a host of various dancers, from multiple states, whose collective assistance in looking after all of us, proved invaluable, in that fashion traditional unto Rock n' Roll, in a bygone era, very much resembling the not so fictional film "Almost Famous." CaliforniaBlack Widow later reformed to Prisoner @ Night Club Band in Hawaii Performed as a guitarist at WELL over 1,000 shows on Military bases Waikiki or other places, many of these performances involved 4-5 hour shows based upon 45 minute sets. Sometimes the work was divided between bands but other times there was only us. Our most important show was Oct. 23, 1983, Black Sunday, Beirut Bombing, we were proud to be at K-Bay with over 600 United States Marines. That night security came through the doors fully loaded with the dogs. Thanks to all serviceman present that evening for your service.Vince Ching, then owner of Rhema Sound, was our original sound man. Lee Bench became our full time sound man at 14yrs. old (when not Bouncing). John Jessel of Custom Audio and the late Mr. Stephen Clark worked sound for us as well. Thanks are due to all because like a lot of Honolulu performers, we didn't make much. More than anyone should have to, we played 2 shows, or more, in 24 hours. My thanks to Mike Snook, Rob Gunderson, Steve Durrett, Dave Farnie, Gabe Thorton, David Yamamoto, and Mark Smith, my fellow bandmates all! There are associated bands and a host of their's and our's girlfriends, each of whom, I should also thank, unfortunately, a sincere document would constitute a scroll. I should mention John Andreoni stood out as a great drummer! To bad he never played with us. I also want to thank Mike Furlong, who allowed me to guest as a background vocalist (gasp) on his single "Use it or Lose it, from Boxer's debut Album with Warner. Mike has been a phenomenal guitarist and vocalist. If only we hadn't been trading sets.Lastly, thanks go out to Sonya Mendez and Revolution for taking one night a week off so that other people could draw a crowd. The Wave received national coverage for it's success, due to Sonya and Revolution, who performed, most nights, sadly (for us), right across the street.
