I have over 15 years investment experience in pan European and global equity markets. Having trained as an equity analyst at Merrill Lynch I progressed to being Head of Europe at American Express and have had senior roles at Morgan Stanley as well as experience of managing long/short equity money at J O Hambro. I am currently solely in charge of the Europe ex UK equity product at LV= Asset Management. I am looking to utilise my investment experience primarily in equities in a wider geographic role (i.e. global) or my asset allocation experience at Amex and LV and strong risk and derivative knowledge honed running a hedge fund in the multi-asset family office area.Senior Equity Fund Manager @ From September 2012 to Present (3 years 4 months) European fund manager @ I was a European fund manager investing in European ex UK equities. This involved fundamental bottom up analysis of companies and industries to generate high conviction investment ideas. The fund is a core product and targetting investment returns of 2.5% in excess of benchmark every year after fees. A lot of work is done at the portfolio construction level to understand absolute and relative investment risks and use derivatives and large cap positions to mitigate these. The fund has outperformed its benchmark in all of the last three years From June 2008 to November 2011 (3 years 6 months) European Fund Manager @ From January 2008 to November 2011 (3 years 11 months) Hedge Fund Manager @ I co-managed a long/short equity fund that specialised in banks. insurance and diversified financial stocks listed across Europe. The strategy was market neutral (max 20% long or short at the net level) and consisted of three main strategies. Absolute longs and Shorts - these were high conviction names with compelling absolute valuation upside allied with definable trigger points for these valuation anomalies to unwind. Relative longs or shorts to a relevant sector i.e. European banks ETF. This mimicked long only investing where you are looking for the best performing. stock relative to its underlying sector - where a lot of the market risk is removed by the ETF hedge. The final strategy was pair trades where a stock was regarded as a more powerful hedge than the underlying sector or where a so-called stub trade was favoured. The fund was up around 12% in 2006 and was flat in 2007 when it was decided to unwind the fund with the advent of the turmoil that embroiled the European and UK banking sectors. From January 2006 to August 2007 (1 year 8 months) Vice President @ From July 2004 to January 2006 (1 year 7 months) Equity Specialist Sales Canary Wharf @ From June 2004 to January 2006 (1 year 8 months) European Fund manager @ I started at Amex analysing financial stocks. After 1999 the analysts became sector specific Portfolio Managers. From 2002 I was responsible for running the European team. The team consisted of 5 sector specific PMs and myself. The investment style was bottom up, growth orientated and very focused with around 45 stocks held on a pan-European basis. Performance of the European fund was ahead of the index and second quartile over 1,5 and 7 years up until 2003. The team was disbanded with the acquisition of Threadneedle at the end of 2003. From September 1997 to March 2004 (6 years 7 months) Head of European Equity team @ From 2001 to 2003 (2 years) Equity Analyst @ At Merrill Lynch I was the analyst responsible for covering pan-European financial stocks.
