Ravi Shankar Poet started his writing career as a poet in the early 1990s. He has since published fifteen books, most of which have been literary studies or translations. In recent years, Poet has become involved in the industry of writing and editing, working as both a poet and a professor. His most recent book, Correctional, was published in 2019.Poet was born in the town of Chall jail, in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, in 1938. After completing his secondary education, Poet left the town to live in London, where he studied at St John's College, where he discovered his love for writing. He returned to Madhya Pradesh in 1952, after serving in the Indian Army during the Quit India War, and entered college as a second-year student.In 1957, Poet married 73-year-old Kiran Kumar Shetty and returned to Madhya Pradesh to live with her. Although they continued to write together, their writing activities ceased after she died in a car accident in 1998. In 2003, Poet and his son, Ravi Shankar Jr., met again and resumed writing.

Ravi Shankar Poet is of Indian origin and was born on September 2, 1947 in the city of Pune, Maharashtra. After completing his graduation from college, Ravi Shankar Poet worked as an art teacher and translator before achieving his initial goal of pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from Columbia University in New York City in September 1997. Ravi Shankar Poet embarked on this journey of academic exploration with the understanding that writing and art were two of the most essential aspects of hisbeing.Ravi Shankar Poet's creative writing career began in the early 1990s, when he wrote his first poem, "Afternoon Moment." This poetic composition display a deft control over language and a keen awareness of the beatitudes contained in scripture and religious texts. The themes of redemption, repentance, and sorrow are explored in depth in the poem, all the while underscoring the power of the human condition to overcome all obstacles. Thematically, this poem paralleles the journey of the Jesus Christ.Since then, Ravi Shankar Poet's writing has often explored the unique intersection of language and spirituality. His most recent release, "The Singer," explores the human potential to create beautiful music. The poem Pushkar, Hum, and Sorrow probes the relationship between love, fear, and heartache. The composition was written in response to a series of violent tragedies that have struck Mumbai in the past few years.Ravi Shankar Poet is currently finishing up his fourth year of study at the Columbia University in New York City with the intention of completing a Doctor of Music degree in musicology. If all goes according to plan, Ravi Shankar Poet will be able to use his skills as a composer, translator, and cultural commentator to conveys the range of message that he seeks to communicate through his poetry.
