Rachel Michaelov has over 10 years of experience in both Public Company Accounting and Corporate Tax practice. She has been with and graduated from both accounting programs at Touche Ross LLP, where she became the first woman to hold the position of Director of Corporate Accounting. Following her experience at Touche Ross, she most recently was an Executive Officer at Koch Industries (www. Koch Industries, Inc .) where she led the company’s cash flow, financial statements, and accounting practices. From Koch, she moved on to lead the company’s European business, where she provided sharp insight into Koch’s business performance in both Europe and North America. In this role, she was responsible for all aspects of Koch’s global marketing, human resources, and financial reporting. AsAccountant at Koch, Rachel Michaelov led the development of the company’s CRM ( Customer Relationship Management ), financial statements, and operational reporting.Prior to her work at Koch, Rachel Michaelov spent several years in accounting practice at Fenton & Co LLP, where she held several high-level responsible positions in the company. Since arriving in the United States as an immigrant in 2002, Rachel has twice shifted her focus to take advantage of opportunities that would have been out of reach for her as a newcomer. Back then, she worked in a factory in Russia, and even though she started out as a cook, she quickly learned that there was no way she was going to make it as a maid or even as a domestic servant. Instead, Rachel decided to enter business and after some trial and error, she wound up starting her own cleaning business. And that’s when she met her husband and investment banker, who introduced her to the world of professional finance.That’s where she met her husband of eight years and, for the next few years, she played important role in helping his financial concerns grow in size and value. In doing so, she came to appreciate the challenges and rewards of financial leadership, and from there she decided to explore a career in finance.She graduated from college with a degree in accounting and began working as a bookkeeper for a small company in her home country. After a few years of this type of work, she realized that she didn’t have the skills she needed toaders a profitable company. So she moved to the United States and started looking for a new career.At first, she considered a career in business administration or marketing, but she quickly realized that there would be no way she could make it as a business owner without the skills and experience she had acquired as a bookkeeper. So she asked her husband how he thought she could make the switch to business administration and he said, “She’s smart and she can do it.”That was my turning point. I realized that if I was going to make the switch to a career in business administration, I would need to be really bone fide about it and commit to hard work and dedication. And I did. I attended business school and learned all I could about business administration so that I could be a successful leader in the field.
