About Peter Nesvold, CFA

📖 Summary

Peter Nesvold is a multi-disciplinary investment professional with 19 years of Wall Street experience. A lawyer, CFA, and CPA by background, Peter offers a unique blend of hands-on investment and transactional expertise. Peter cut his teeth as a sell-side analyst, rising to Senior Managing Director at Bear Stearns in less than six years. In this role, he proved unafraid to challenge the consensus view—for instance, sharply and publicly criticizing GM's balance sheet and financial prospects in the year leading up to the 2008 crisis. (Selected reports below.) Over the course of his sell-side career, Peter covered more than 50 companies in total and ranked in StarMine’s “Best Analysts” poll across three industries: Autos, Machinery, and Transports. This versatility carried over to Peter’s role as a portfolio manager/analyst at Lazard Asset Management, where he was one of three managers of the firm’s SMid-cap product. During his tenure, the team grew AUM more than ten-fold and earned Morningstar’s coveted “five-star” rating. Since 2013, Peter has served as Managing Director, Chief Operating Officer, and Head of Strategic Initiatives for Silver Lane Advisors, a premier M&A advisor to the financial services industry. In this role, he has developed new revenue streams and helped institutionalize the firm's business practices following its exponential growth. In 2014, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the New York Society of Security Analysts (NYSSA)—founded in 1937 by a group of professionals that included Benjamin Graham, the "father of securities analysis." Peter has also co-authored four books on M&A for McGraw-Hill (www.artofma.com). Peter graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and Fordham Law School (cum laude, Order of the Coif), where he was elected Editor-in-Chief of his law journal. In his spare time, he is an avid long-distance runner, completing 38 full- and half-marathons.Managing Director, Chief Operating Officer, and Head of Strategic Initiatives @ Silver Lane is a premier M&A advisor to the financial services industry. The firm serves a broad range of financial services clients, including investment and wealth management firms, multi-family offices, brokerage firms, private and commercial banks, trust and insurance companies, and financial technology firms. Silver Lane advises on mergers & acquisitions, divestitures and sales transactions, recapitalizations, and joint ventures/strategic alliances. Founded in 2007, Silver Lane is headquartered in New York City. Silver Lane’s sole focus on advisory work removes distractions or conflicts of interest that characterize some of its competition. That ethic is also reflected in Silver Lane’s commitment to social responsibility: The firm donates a percentage of each fee it earns to nonprofits. To date, Silver Lane Cares—the corporate philanthropic arm—has supported two dozen such groups. Silver Lane also operates as a “green company,” sustaining a paperless operation. Silver Lane bills itself as “Not Your Ordinary Investment Bank” for one more reason: It is one of the few female-owned companies in a tradition-bound industry. By itself, that’s not a reason to choose Silver Lane for an assignment, of course, but it may help explain why the firm is just a little more determined to prove itself and help its clients succeed.
