💼 Past Experience

Back in March 1985, I was appointed as the Managing Director at Macsteel Service Centres S.A. When I joined the company, it was a small company and our main focus was supplying services to coal mines and for the steel workers in those mines. But over time, we grew and started to do business in other industries. We achieved a lot and made a lot of progress, but unfortunately at the same time we lost a lot of people. We sacked a lot of people and we also made a lot of changes, but we didn't manage to keep our business going at the same level as it had been when we had a lot of people. On the other hand, we managed to keep our people, who I think are the best in the business. About six years later, we did something that I think was very wise, and that was we merged with another company.In December 2009, I became the CEO of UVSS Pty Ltd, and we started a new business, Coal, which is a coal-based steel business. We were a small business at the time, but over time we grew and started to do business in other industries. We achieved a lot and made a lot of progress, but unfortunately at the same time we lost a lot of people. We sacked a lot of people and we also made a lot of changes, but we didn't manage to keep our business going at the same level as it had been when we had a lot of people. On the other hand, we managed to keep our people, who I think are the best in the business. About six years later, we did something that I think was very wise, and that was we merged with another company. I was about to become the CEO at UVSS Pty Ltd when I left the company to start Macsteel ServiceCentres S.A.As the CEO of Macsteel ServiceCentres S.A., I increased the company's sales and particularly its exports which helped us to boost our business. I also increased the company's profits and I think I made a lot of good decisions. I also gave my people free rein to do what they wanted to do. We've been able to keep our business going at the same level as it had been when I had a lot of people, but we've also made a lot of changes.AMA, which is a technical consultants company, came to us with a challenge. They were looking to expand their business, but they didn't want to do anything that would competition with us. They wanted to work with us, but they wanted to do it in a way that would be beneficial for both of our businesses.AMA has many years of experience in their field, and so they knew what they were looking for in a business partner.
