🎓 Education

Nicola Savio's education had been focused on purely scientific and math-based endeavors until he attended the Università Carlo Cattaneo in Italy where he studied chemical engineering. shortly after completing his degree, he moved to Padova, Italy to pursue his PhD under the guidance of professors Carlo Cattaneo and Umberto Eco. However, Savio's passion for architecture led him to study in Rome, Italy and after a few months of study he was offered a job at the city's basilica of Santa Maria della Vittoria as an architectural engineer. After a few months working at the basilica, Savio met the architect Paolo Emilio Pirro and the twofell in love. Savio would later say that Pirro was the first person to introduce him to the then-mainstream New York School of Architecture which would have a huge impact on Savio's future work.Savio would continue to work at the basilica until the early 2000s, when he decided to move back to Italy to take up a job as an associate professor at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. However, Savio's love for architecture still led him to pursue his passion for designing buildings and in 2003 he was approached with the opportunity to design the new campus of the University of California, Davis. Savio accepted the challenge and his designs would become one of the most popular campus buildings ever created.Since setting up his own architecture practice in2005, Savio has designed over 100 buildings worldwide and has been awarded numerous awards including the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize in2010. His buildings have been featured in numerous magazines and newspaper articles and have been seen by many as a landmark example of architecture in the 21st century. In addition to his work as an architect, Savio is also a member of the Royal Academy of London and has been active in public deliberations since he was first elected to the Academy in2014.
