Background Nichola Abdo was born in Kingai, Greece in 1981. When she was just 16 years old, she immigrated to the United States to attend college. After attending college and suffering from a few wanderings in between, she earned her undergraduate degree in computer science from the University of Utah in 2003. After that, Abdo spent a few years working as a web developer for a small online store. She then started studying engineering at the University of Santa Clara, where she earned her Masters in 2004. From there, she worked as a research associate at the University of Freiburg in Germany before moving to Google in 2015.Abdo is interested in artificial intelligence, robotics, and related technologies. She has a number of Ted Talks on AI and Robotics that she has given, and her written work focuses on these topics. Her research projects focus on training deep learning algorithms, text recognition, and other deep-learning-related research.
