From December 2015 to Present (1 month) Software Engineer @ Building applications for the distribution of BBC content, such as television, news, sport, music, weather and radio. Achievements: • Contributed software engineering expertise to ensure addition of features and incremental improvements to the BBC's IPTV applications. • Participated in the migration of BBC smart TV platforms to the HTML suite of applications. A major success being the provision of a full release of the previously beta Redbutton Plus application which now regularly provides BBC content to half a million users daily. • Implemented video playback functionality in the Redbutton Plus application which provided additional access to live video content for BBC audiences. • Evaluated approaches to engineering best practices within the IPTV team and oversaw the implementation of improved methods that enhanced development and release processes. • Joint leading engineer on the music events application for the summer of 2015 – this provided access to additional live video content to smart TV users across the UK for music festivals such as Glastonbury . • Evalutated technologies to establish the roadmap for further developments of BBC IPTV applications (e.g. the ability to play HLS). • Supervised team members in their introduction to the departments code bases and build tools thereby facilitating the development of their domain knowledge. • Actively involved in outreach activities, delivering a number of talks to university students about the work undertaken by our teams at the BBC. • Implemented video playback via broadcast streams for the sport application on TiVo which allowed IP streams to be discontinued for live sports events whilst maintaining users access to the same video content – Creating a saving to the department of £10,000 per month. • Selected to work in the feature crew tasked with turning the BBC's IPTV iPlayer application into a platform for the delivery of all BBC's content on smart televisions and set top boxes. Achievements: • Applied front-end knowledge and software engineering expertise to enhance and develop BBC's range of IPTV, adding numerous features to help our audience discover more content from the numerous BBC product lines. • Actively involved in the full life cycle development and launch of the TiVo ETV application, which supplies additional video and broadcast content to hundreds of thousands of users everyday. • Developed new features in the sports application which provided BBC audiences more access to live Wimbledon coverage. • Built and refined features on the new Javascript beta version of the Connected Red Button application which extended the BBC's IPTV offering to a hundreds of thousands of smart TV users across the UK. • Pursued advancements in TDD, BDD automated testing and continuous integration to ensure rapid and regular releases of the Connected Red Button application. From April 2013 to December 2013 (9 months) Software Developer @ Created advanced assessment and authoring extensions to the company's e-learning platform of the UK's foremost provider of e-assessment software.
