The main driver for Infra Tech being set up was to deliver innovative solutions and avoiding cut and paste engineering. This has been possible through our in house applied research and training. Infra Tech has ben delivering solutions in Australia, Malaysia, PNG, Asia, Europe and Africa. Currently as MD I provide guidance to our management team in our applied research and services development From November 2003 to Present (12 years 2 months) Senior Principal Engineer @ As Senior Principal built up the geotechnical and pavements consulting group, oversaw the development of the construction material lab and pavements testing group. delivered several projects for Main Roads WA, Water Corp, WA and consulted on large projects with Clough, Leighton and several other contractors, developers and government Clients. From February 1999 to October 2003 (4 years 9 months) Perth, AustraliaSenior Geotechnical Engineer @ Worked as Senior Geotechnical Engineer and created wider range of services targeting Main Roads WA, developers, involved in small and large projects ranging from Jimble Bar crusher, Exmouth Marina, Narrows Bridge duplication, Dampier iron ore loading terminal for Clough Sandwell JV etc From December 1998 to January 1999 (2 months) Perth, AustraliaManaging Director @ Joined as Senior Geotechnical Engineer ( when the ownership was by Wimpey Group, UK) and developed the company services in Geotechnical Engineering, Pavements, Geophysics, Geotechnical Instrumentation, Construction materials testing and consulting. Set up and oversaw the applied research programme related to geophysics in geotechnical engineering and developed local and regional clients in Malaysia, Brunei. Enjoyed developing a team of professionals into an excellent working team. Left due to migration to Australia From January 1986 to August 1998 (12 years 8 months) SingaporeFull time M Eng Student @ Enrolled for full time M Eng in geotechnics with pavement modules as well. Thesis was on "Prefabricated Vertical Drains - change of permeability of clays with consolidation and effect on PVD design". Loved the time with Prof Ian Kenneth Lee and late Prof Brian Shackel , great teachers and human beings. From March 1984 to March 1985 (1 year 1 month) Resident Engineer @ joined as Resident Engineer reporting to the Chief Resident Engineer on the 40km long, 4 lane dual carriageway Jerudong to Tutong highway . My section was 20km long with 4 bridges, plenty of swampy ground, deep cuttings and fills on soft ground. this was the era of no internet or emails and all reading for devising solutions on the go for soft ground was based on discussions with peers, contractors and hardcopy books by Prof Broms . also saw the demise of the contractor who did not fully appreciate the ground conditions and saw through the re- tender, claims, counterclaims saga and the appointment of a new contractor. Thoroughly enjoyed the contractual and technical challenges and decided to pursue a career in Geotechnical Engineering which resulted in me leaving the job to pursue a full time M Eng course in UNSW , Sydney. From April 1982 to February 1984 (1 year 11 months) Brunei DarussalamProject Engineer @ Project Engineer in charge of the Civil works for the Brunei Stadium project which was delivered as a fast track Design and Construct project by Swee Pte Ltd, with all civil and structural designs and supervision by Associated Consultants. This was the era when Design and Construct models of project delivery were new in Asia, gave me a good insight into the issues related to D & C work. Value engineering on the go was fun and challenging. Dealing with Clients Consultants were not fully familiar with D & C concept was more challenging. Working with a Main Contractor as the Client was my first experience and taught me "write things down ", do not hesitate to stand your ground for " all that will go wring will go wrong" From March 1981 to March 1982 (1 year 1 month) Brunei DarussalamEngineer @ Joined as Graduate engineer ( having worked here as vacation trainee during my undergraduate days ) , went through the formal training in Construction and design and obtained by MICE UK status in 1981. worked on road projects, bridge projects all delivered as Direct Labour by the Department very much along the lines of the DLOs in UK. working with labour force, supervisors who were double your age taught me communications, understanding construction aspects and delivery on the ground as a team. The Kotte new parliament complex roads went through built up areas as well as deep swamps and planning the solutions, workforce and plant and managing the project was really a career long memory and experience.
