📖 Summary
Intern in Web Design @ InsiteCS Worked with a small team developing websites as an intern. From April 2006 to October 2006 (7 months) Flash Developer @ Grooveshark Developed customizable Flash-based data-visualization tools to provide insight into user trends and business decisions. The charts' data and appearance were controlled via XML. From April 2010 to August 2010 (5 months) Undergraduate/Graduate Researcher @ University of Nevada Reno Writing software for the computational neuroscience lab. Developed language translation tools for neuroscience DSL's (eg. from the NCS simulator language to NeuroML, an emerging standard for modeling neural simulations). Integrated a ROS-based robotics simulation in Gazebo using a Willow Garage PR2 robot to the NCS brain simulator to show decision-based learning in a practical environment. Built a RESTful Python service to manage users, run brain simulations, view the results of a simulation, and configure real-time data-streaming from the simulator remotely. Developed a JSON-based modeling language for neuroscientists to write, and configure neural models, and to transfer simulation information between different services, such as between a web-based modeling tool and a model database based on MongoDB. Developed a documentation system that compiles simple Markdown documents into a Twitter Bootstrap-based online documentation system. It can also be compiled into a PDF for offline documentation.Advised multiple senior-project groups working with the lab developing neuroscience tools on strategies and provided direction for the projects. From August 2011 to July 2014 (3 years) Reno, NevadaResearch Assistant @ University of Nevada Reno Creating a system for the School of Journalism that crawls news websites in certain areas of the country and use a graph database (neo4j) to see how these sites are interconnected and NLP (natural language processing) to determine the sentiment of articles, and what kind of topics the article covers. From January 2014 to May 2014 (5 months) Reno, Nevada AreaSupplemental Instructor/Grader @ University of Nevada Reno Design and implement an automatic grading system for the CS302 (Data Structures) class. The system is a web-based application (built using Flask) where students upload their assignments, and they are built using GCC/Clang and are then unit-tested to grade them. I also graded handwritten tests and taught a few different classes on expression trees, binary search trees and hash tables. From January 2014 to May 2014 (5 months) Reno, Nevada AreaWeb Programmer @ OHL Designed and implement web applications that increase business intelligence and efficiency.Developed applications using Adobe Coldfusion 8 and 9 as well as Adobe Flash and Adobe Flex, ASP.NET MVC, and Microsoft SQL Server. These applications could range between simple form applications, complex payroll systems, data-visualization tools, and data-warehousing.Worked with fellow employees in various offices and warehouses to ensure that the application would fit their needs, and ensured that the application was working as intended. From June 2009 to October 2012 (3 years 5 months) Sparks, NevadaSenior Software Engineer @ Uber Worked to design and implement a new logging/event analytics platform to replace the ELK stack. The platform is used to gain insights about Uber's systems for debugging or trend analysis.Worked on RPC service communication (service mesh) components written in Go for infrastructure foundations. Components included service discovery, health checking, and traffic direction/monitoring.Worked with a team to design and implement a new customer support system tailored to the needs of Uber and the riders/drivers using the platform. Microservices were written in Go and Python. Greater New York City AreaGraduate Intern @ Rackspace, the Open Cloud Company I worked on Rackspace's cloud monitoring features. I created a system that gathered metrics from a Node.js StatsD back-end and inserted them into BlueFlood (Rackspace's metrics aggregation system) and then used the Rackspace public API to aggregate this data and created a public-facing dashboard displaying this aggregated data about Cloud Monitoring product. The goal of the project was to increase transparency (a Rackspace Core Value) and introduce "dogfooding" (using your own software and products that you sell to customers) into the Cloud Monitoring product. From May 2013 to August 2013 (4 months) San Francisco Bay Area
