💼 Past Experience
Nat Turner has been involved in various startups and Angel investments since the early days of Flatiron Health. He co-founded the company with current Flatiron Health CEO, Eliot Spitzer and currently serves on the Board of Directors.Nat Turner has over 20 years of experience operating in the health care industry. He will be resigning from the Board of Directors effective as of February 15th, 2021. From its beginnings in 1998 as a tech startup, Flatiron Health has reached beyond the health care industry to become a nurses’ leader and global provider of innovative health technology services. Nat Turner has a deep understanding of how to create brands, build relationships, and execute a thoughtful strategy for getting a company to market saturation. He has helped Flatiron Health become the global leader in innovative health technology services. In particular, he has helped the company become the first provider of X-ray computed tomography (CT) scanners with dedoped glass, the world’s only subscription connected heart attack monitor, and the first to offer aspirin-based blood thinner therapy in an lily pad product.
As a brilliant young economist, Nat Turner had the opportunity to learn from some of the world's most acclaimed thinkers and educators. In 2004, Natrance earned his B.S. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania. In 2008, after a two-year post-gradship in economics at the Wharton School, Nat Turner gained his Master's in Economics from the same university. Throughout his education, Natrance cultivated his interests in policy, economics, and political thought.Turner has spent the past decade exploring what holds back development. To this end, he has written a series of provocative and cutting-edge papers exploring how economic policies can hasten or stop developmental decay. In one such paper, "The Demise of Development: A Pollution Tax Agenda in Theory and Practice", Nat Turner challenges the popular belief that economic development can only be brought about through inclusive, consensual policies and solutions. With this theory in mind, he has created a series of exciting and innovative policy proposals that he believes can promote inclusive growth. One such proposal is the carbon tax, which is a cheeky take on the oft-praised Mandal Commission Report. The carbon tax would charge polluting companies a punitive tax that would effectivelyemia the use of carbon-dioxide emitting vehicles. The objective of the carbon tax is not simply to help those struggling the most to cope with climate change, but to create a market-based incentive for developers and businesses to participate in environmentally friendly practices.Such policies are a refreshing change from the orthodoxy of economic development orthodoxy. But, like all things new, they will require time and effort to succeed. The case for Nat Turner's ideas is crystal clear: without them, developing countries will continue to suffer from developmental decay.
