SPACE, PEACE and MICKEY!
I'm a little bit of a crazy guy who does what I love and loves what I do! Prior to joining Disney, I received a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in Computer Sciences. My thesis was on organizing large collections of digital media, but I also did some work with automatic video editing. While in graduate school I did a few "stints" at Microsoft Research as a research intern working with a few amazing researchers who pushed the boundaries of computer technology.
After finishing graduate school, I went on to work at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where I helped put Curiosity on Mars. Well, actually I wrote some of the ground software to allow the scientists to find data that was downlinked from Mars back to Earth. I also led the development of the web interface for planning communication windows between Earth and Mars (coordinating the rovers with Mars satellites and radio telescope time on Earth).
Now my adventure finds me at Disney! I'm working at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Online to allow guests to book their dining experiences through our website. I'm constantly making sure that the system is up and running, as well as trying to identify holes and pain-points for our guests. My ultimate goal is that I'll have some lasting impact on the company and make our guest experience that much better!
