Michael J McGrath is President and CEO of Medica Center International LLC which he established in September 2012 in the US. A seasoned healthcare executive with over 35 years experience of senior management experience, Mr McGrath brings a wealth of experience and achievement in acute hospital & diagnostic services with proven effectiveness in creative solutions for the delivery of healthcare to the community.
Mr McGrath co-founded the Cortez group in 2000 to enable the design, construction and operation of purpose built hospitals, ancillary services and doctor consulting suites within a comprehensive medical center maximizing patient diagnosis, treatment and convenience. The ability of doctors to access world class state of the art equipment in hospital operating rooms and ancillary equipment is paramount in delivering high quality care reducing LOS through the use of technology. The services included in each development is evaluated based on the population, disease types and treatment needs of the area. The Sydney project is the first of its type in Australia.
In 1997, Mr McGrath co-developed the business model for Medical Imaging Australia Ltd, a publicly listed company that was the largest radiology and imaging company (DCA Group) in Australia. In 1998, he founded Clinical Associates of Australia Ltd, a radiology and nuclear medicine company, which was substantially acquired in 2002 by the Mayne Group.
In December 1995, Mr McGrath returned to Australia from the United States having spent 16 years as a senior healthcare executive for a Fortune 500 company and large not-for-profit companies. Mr McGrath established AHI Healthcare Systems Pty Ltd and provided services to many health care organizations and companies which includes healthcare facility and services consulting, capital raising and business planning (which has formed the basis for many corporatized medical services) and health sector service networks providing support services to patients and doctors.
President & CEO @ Mr. McGrath established Medica Center International LLC in September 2012 based on the successful model built and operated in Sydney, Australia. The company is dedicated to providing services to healthcare organisations in the United States and the emerging healthcare markets in Asia and South America.
The company develops comprehensive full service Hospitals and Medical Centers from planning to commissioning and operation. The facilities are scaled and have services provided based on the demographics and community needs of the area.
The organization provides extensive advice to hospitals, physician groups and healthcare providers with a talented group of healthcare professionals including board certified doctors representing most specialities, registered nurses, ancillary staff such as pharmacists, dieticians etc, and certified IT professionals.
The focus of assignments provided includes IT solutions for hospitals and physician groups providing efficiencies in clinical applications, EHR & EMR, clinical charting to improve clinical communication resulting in improved measurable clinical outcomes. Our healthcare professionals have experience maximizing the benefits of many major systems such as Cerner, EPIC, GE and McKesson to name just four of the major corporations. Other companies systems requiring integration and development are represented in our team. Migration to Microsoft updates facility wide are a particular area of expertise with emphasis on existing clinical systems integration and compatibility.
Hospital service demand studies, construction project management, service delivery expansion and identifying and implementing growth for physician groups and practices together with capital and debt raising are strengths of the group. Medica Center International LLC will participate with equity in selected projects that meet the groups investment criteria. From September 2012 to Present (3 years 4 months) Co-Founder @ Mr McGraths goal was to develop and build a new healthcare model under the banner of the ‘Medica Centre’. The 50,000 square meter 20 floor centre provides medical offices for an extensive multi-speciality group of doctors including a 7 Operating Theatre acute surgical hospital with 36 beds incorporating 24 overnight stay beds (in excess of 30 bed future building expansion provision) and a level 1 ICU, extensive Imaging and Nuclear Medicine, Cancer services including Radiation Oncology (Twin mirrored Varian Linear Accelerators) and a Chemotherapy clinic with 6 beds and 36 chairs, Pathology, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy and other therapies, and Surgical Services all under one roof for ease of healthcare delivery to patients.
The Medica Centre has implemented an advanced Electronic Healthcare Record (EHR) designed for the hospital and ancillary services, academic medical research, and is capable of being integrated into hospital delivery networks. It offers integrated clinical, financial, and administrative software solutions to help improve management of patient billing, revenue cycles, and closed-loop medication. This is the first paperless system in Australia.
The Medica Centre is now trading as Waratah Private hospital.

From 1996 to June 2013 (17 years) Executive Vice President COO/CEO @ Mr McGrath was COO/CEO of St. Francis Medical Center a 550 bed level 2-trauma center in Lynwood California, a Daughters of Charity healthcare facility in south central Los Angeles. It was here that he developed a close relationship with AHI physicians servicing their managed care patient base along with other physicians and their patients in south central Los Angeles. Mr McGrath negotiated the largest Medicaid program in the state of California. Mr McGrath was successful in expanding services from obstetrics, open-heart surgery and inpatient psychiatry, while developing and had funded from the State of California the complete rebuilding of the hospital. From 1989 to 1995 (6 years) Executive Vice President Operations & CFO @ Saint Jude Medical Center is a comprehensive, 359-bed Catholic hospital located in the Sunny Hills area of Fullerton, California. It is a member of the non-profit St. Joseph Health System, a ministry of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, and serves patients from throughout north Orange County. Mr McGrath developed and expanded new services at this hospital and implemented a rate enhancement profile to complement the services offered. The hospital is an acute medical surgical hospital the major services offered are Emergency, Cardiac and Vascular Catheterization including open heart, Critical Care, Cancer treatments and Maternity services. From 1988 to 1990 (2 years) Executive Vice President Operations and CFO @ The Sisters of the Holy Cross opened the original 75-bed Saint Agnes Hospital, circa 1929. This has evolved into a 436-bed, state-of-the-art Medical Center campus. The Center offers emergency, diagnostic and rehabilitative services to cardiac, cancer, neurological and orthopedic care, where the community trust that Saint Agnes Medical Center will be here for them and their family for years to come. Mr McGrath was responsible for operations and finanaces of this central valley medical facility. During his tenure Mr McGrath instituted a review of all hospital services which were reconfigured and expanded to provide fiancial stability for the hospital and the community. This include a land acquisitions and building development to position the facility for the future. From 1986 to 1988 (2 years) CFO and acting CEO International Division @ From 1986 to 1986 (less than a year) Vice- President & Deputy CFO International Division @ As deputy CFO responsible for all middle east activities in Taif, Dahahran and Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Established the European regional office in London and lead project development in Paris. This included the evaluation of the Louis Paster Institute and the development of a second American Hospital in Paris.Responsible for financial oversite of Mt. Elisabeth Hospital Singapore, Subang Jaya Medical Centre KL, Malaysia, Bumrungrad International (Hospital) Bangkok and the development of AME (Australia) From 1980 to 1986 (6 years) CFO - Project and Hospital @ National Medical Enterprise commissioned and operated this 396 bed acute hospital on behalf of the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Defense and Aviataion served as Hospital & Project CFO responsible for hospital finances in this multi-facility health care system. Responsible for all hospial operations (11,000 patient days per month) and clinic operations (15,000 patient visits per month), (including a medical staff of 150 physicians), and support services (over 1,500 staff). Responsible for NME project office interests consisting of 300 personal. Streamlined the procurement process for all capital and supplies into the Centers 250,000 square foot warehouse in Taif from London and Santa Monica. Lead the recover of in excess of a US$50 million dollar receivables reconciliation since the commissioning of the hospital on behalf of MODA by NME from inception in 1978. From January 1981 to 1983 (2 years) Regional Controller @ Responsible for the financial over site of Bexley Private Hospital, Christo Road Private Hospital, Nowra Private, Tweed Heads Private all in New South Wales and Malvern Private Hospital in Victoria. Lead the due diligence team for the acquisition of Mt. Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore for HAI.
