Michael Koufos was born in Athens, Greece, on October 25, 1979. Koufos is the son of a traveling father and a stay-at-home mother. Koufos originally became interested in technology when he noticed his father carrying around a Beoirghia 2400 digital camera. Koufos started taking photos himself and began to design and build his own telescopes out of small gears and home-made parts.Koufos attended the University of Athens School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications and then went on to complete his studies at Harvard University in 2006.
