Michael Cheng started his career in early 2002 as a software engineer at Sun Microsystems, working on the Java platform. In the next few years, he rose through the ranks and relocated to Sun’s corporate headquarters in Mountain View, California. At Sun, Cheng developed products that included the Java seaside application platform (J2EE), JavaServer Faces, and JavaServer need. He also led Sun’s effort to become the first company to market and sell Java software over the Internet. After a few years at Sun, Cheng moved to Google, where he served as a senior software engineer for Google’s Motorola division. He was responsible for developing Google’s flagship search engine, Google Earth, as well as a number of other search products.
