Melissa McAvoy has a B.S. from University of Carolina at Chapel Hill where she studied Communication. She then moved on to the University of Pittsburgh where she completed an Associate of Arts in Broadcasting in 1995. After emergency rotation at Management College of Wooster, Ohio in 1997, Melissa McAvoy completed her doctorate at University of Pittsburgh, specializing in Mass Communication. After completing her doctorate, she worked as a faculty member in the School of Communications at UNCW from 1997-2003. currently, she is a Professor of Mass Communication at UNCW where she is also the Judicial Coordinator for the school's AUDIOCaster program. Melissa has been active in many international forums and symposiums and has authored several papers on her research interests. From May 2009 to October 2013, she served as the Assistant Professor of Journalism at Northeastern University.
