Meg Hovious Ralphs living roomMeg Hovious lives in the Ralphs living room with her dog cake and cat napping. After growing up in a small town in Indiana, Meg studied mental health in college. She says that this was a very important step in her path as a career filmmaker."As a mental health professional, I was able to help other people understand and manage their PTSD and anxiety issues."Before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film, Meg worked experience in early childhood development, mental health, and marketing. She was really drawn to the idea of working with kids and formed a project to work with Fayette County, Kentucky in early 2019."While working in early childhood development, I saw that I had a lot of passion in helping kids and wanted to use my skills to help more people."In 2019, Meg also began working as a Counselor/Therapist with the University of Kentuckyโs Admissions Counseling clinic. She was able to help students with issues like anxiety and depression, and her work made her very interested in filmmaking and the ways that it could help create change."I wanted to know more about how films could be used to help people, and how I could help contribute to that."In early 2020, Meg began work on her first feature film - a documentary celebrating American-style cake. She loved the idea of making a film about a unique food and was looking for a way to tell the story from a unique perspective."Thinking about the camera as a creator and storyteller, I started to see the power of cinema and storytelling to create change."With a strong interest in filmmaking, Meg next developed a project about mental health in the Latino community. She was able to learn a lot about the community from meeting residents and working with the schools that work with them."Working on the project made me realize that there are so many different perspectives when it comes to mental health, and that there is a lot of work to be done."In early 2021, Meg started work on her first feature film as a director. She loved the idea of making a film about a unique food and was looking for a way to tell the story from a unique perspective.
