Max Schmidt's education began at Barry University, where he earned his BS in Computer Science in 1990. He then attended The Ohio State University, where he earned his M.S. in Computer Science in 1994. During his time at OSU, Max focused his studies on the machine learning and artificial intelligence branches of computer science. He has since made contributions to these fields, and his research has netted him several awards and citations. In his time at OSU, Max also worked on projects that served as a stepping stone into the professional world. He became an employee of Google in 1998, and has since been with the company ever since.Since his time at Google, Max has worked on a number of projects in the fields of machine learning and artificial intelligence. His most recent project is the Google Sheets artificial intelligence tool, which he developed in collaboration with Jiankang Xu and Naohiro Ishiguro. The tool is a library that enables researchers to create, train, and deploy artificial intelligence algorithms. Max is also a referee for the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, ICAI, which is held every other year.Max is currently a visiting scholar at the University of Texas at Austin, where he is working on a project that focuses on the development of intelligent Octopus autonomous vehicles.
