Three word summary of what I do: I tell stories.
Slightly longer summary of what I do: I'm a freelance broadcast journalist, based in New York City. I regularly record features for the BBC World Service, usually human interest show 'Outlook' and soccer program 'World Football'. In addition, my work has been featured on NPR's Only A Game program and CBC's Day 6 show.
I also produce a podcast, 'Howler Radio', for the American soccer magazine, Howler. Howler Radio is my pet project. Originally, I was asked to come up with something that sonically resembles shows like Radiolab or This American Life (both HUGE favorites of mine). The result is a soccer show that is very different from all of the other podcasts on the market - we mix in a choir on most episodes (I've ha have them sing some pretty amazing soccer chants); the soundscapes are original (soccer lends us a lot of great atmospheric noise) and every show has a clear narrative trajectory (no chewing the fat or mulling over transfer rumors, we tell stories that don't date).
I'm immensely proud of our wee show and, just a year after launching, our audio has been featured on NPR's 'Only A Game', CBC's Day 6 program, we've gate-crashed the iTunes sports and recreation chart and we were listed in The Guardian's pick of the week's best sports journalism.
When I'm not out recording, I work for Asian Americans for Equality, a non-profit organization based in New York City. Here I do a lot of report writing and help out with communications and general media-related assignments. I also work regular production shifts at BBC New York.
