Designed a series of frameworks and provocations that pointed to the future world of driverless cars with the aid of mocked up collateral to represent this world and facilitate workshop activities. Led discussions and collaboratively edited and assembled the final Driverless Car QuickStart Guide: Pilot Helios. From February 2015 to February 2015 (1 month) San Francisco Bay AreaGraduate Teaching Assistant @ Wearable and Soft Interactions, taught by Lara Grant, is a class that provides an overlook of the history of wearables and looks to develop an understanding of the socio-cultural-political context of wearables as interactive pieces. The class explores the relationship between technology, fashion and aesthetics.
Technology embedded within materials that bend and move to harness energy, control light displays, compose music and create remote intimacy between persons, etc. Throughout the class students build a range of projects, developing complex concepts around wearable interactions as well as building a set of prototyping skills, from paper prototypes to working prototypes using microcontrollers.
As teaching assistant for this class I worked closely with Lara in project discussions and concept critiques as well as assisting in the actual building process. I was in charge of several in class demos, ranging from how to make a snap on battery pack out of fabric to how to make your own soft pressure sensor.
This was a wonderful opportunity to be immersed in a very fun yet very complex field that has been notably relevant and will continue to be so in coming years. From August 2014 to December 2014 (5 months) San Francisco Bay AreaUX / Design Research Intern @ Managed the launch and initial assessment to the Urgent Alert Feature, a form of crowdsourced alert system that alerts neighbors of a particular neighborhoods of urgent matters. Recruited pilot testers, gathered qualitative user feedback and quantitative data to distill insights and develop recommendations for future improvements in the feature. The launch of the feature led to the increase in user engagement in pilot neighborhoods, as well as a rise in new user signups.
Engaged in in depth research on community building within the small business community of San Francisco to propose recommendations and solutions for the Connections feature, a feature dedicated to connecting small business owners to other small business owners in their communities in easy and personal ways. Led outreach efforts for connecting businesses to other businesses in order to form fruitful partnerships.
Was immersed in the user community conducting over 50 in person interviews; developing insights and recommendations for the specific features mentioned as well as general product improvements that have been implemented in the latest version of the platform. From May 2014 to August 2014 (4 months) San Francisco Bay AreaAudi Innovation Research (AIR) Fellow @ The Audi Innovation Research fellowship was a two week design intensive looking into the role that the automobile would begin to play in a world where we look to redefine it from an object to a connected urban device. A group of 15 multi-disciplinary designers all originating from different CCA programs worked with a number of professionals to develop user experience concepts and look to position them in the Audi world. We worked both individually and in teams to develop concepts and test them via 2d and 3d prototyping methods as well as developing via business models and action plans to be presented to the Audi AIR and Audi AG offices in San Francisco and Germany. María assisted the exhibit coordinator in gathering the equipment necessary, maintaining deadlines for students, installing this interactive exhibit and getting students organized in order to be efficient during the entire process.
