CFO / Vice President - Network Business Unit @ Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Network Business Unit and leader of the Network Finance department with a $10M+ personnel and direct expense budget. Direct report to corporate CFO. Responsible for providing effective, timely and high quality operational finance support to the Chief Operating Officer (COO/T) – the leader of the Network business unit – and his respective operating teams. The supported domestic network organization operates tens of thousands of cell sites and associated wireless telecom infrastructure across points-of-presence, central offices, switches, special and switches access agreements and wireline dark fiber and right-of-way routes. The supported international network organization operates dozens of international points-of-presence, undersea and international cable routes/agreements and satellite back-up agreements. Fiscal oversight over $15B+ in annual operating and capital cash expenses. Responsible for business unit annual and long term budgeting and forecasting processes and monthly close and accrual cycles. Responsible for effectively partnering to deliver financial and operating budgets and commitments and "operationalizing" cost reduction initiatives to support corporate commitments. Responsible for strategic and business case decision support. Responsible for fiscal governance and compliance to internal fiscal, operating and reporting controls including SOX. Responsible for supporting the company’s portfolio of domestic spectrum assets worth tens of billions across both owned and leased 800, 1900 and 2500 MHz spectrum bands. Responsible for effectively partnering and collaborating with parent company Softbank representatives across both Finance and Network. From November 2014 to Present (1 year 2 months) Vice President - Operations Finance - Network and Information Technology (IT) @ Responsible and accountable for leading the operational finance department supporting the Network Operations organization which included IT. Responsible for fiscal and operational finance support over Sprint's domestic and international wireless and wireline network and its IT investments. The position had fiscal and operational finance support and oversight for $16B+ in annual cash expenses (capital and operating expense). From December 2012 to October 2014 (1 year 11 months) Vice President - Strategic Technology Programs @ Role provided overall functional leadership for corporate transformational programs, with the specific focus being Sprint's multi-year, multi-billion dollar network modernization program. Responsible for ensuring all the necessary coordination and communications is done across all Sprint functions. Role drove day-to-day execution and ensured projects were on time and within budget. Direct report to the President - Network Operations and Wholesale. From August 2011 to December 2012 (1 year 5 months) Director - Operations Finance (Network, Operations & Wholesale) @ Lead finance executive leading the operational finance department supporting the Network, Operations and Wholesale organization. Responsible for fiscal and operational finance support over Sprint's domestic and international wireless and wireline network. Responsibilities also included oversight and operational finance support to Sprint's Wholesale (wireless and wireline) organization. In summary, the role had fiscal and operational finance support and oversight for $21B in annual cash expenses (capital and operating expense), $3.9B in annual revenue and 4.2M wireless subscribers. From February 2010 to August 2011 (1 year 7 months) Director - Operations Finance (Business Markets Group) @ Lead finance executive leading the operational finance department that provided financial support to Sprint's business sales organization (BMG - Business Markets Group). BMG organization consisted of 4,000 sales representatives that sold wireless and wireline solutions to business customers of all sizes including the enterprise and public sectors. Fiscal and operational finance oversight over 15 million wireless customers, combined annual wireless and wireline revenues of $15B and direct expenses of $1.5B. From January 2009 to February 2010 (1 year 2 months) Director – Operations Finance (Corporate Planning & Operations Analysis) @ Department head for the finance group responsible for developing and maintaining the long term corporate financial and operating plan. Also responsible for Strategic Decision Support and Corporate Competitive Intelligence. Direct report to the CFO of Sprint Nextel. From 2007 to 2009 (2 years) Director - Investor Relations @ Responsible for managing Sprint Nextel’s strategic relationship with the Wall Street investment community. Daily interaction with senior executive management developing and communicating externally and internally Sprint's key messages and strategies. Daily interaction with sell-side equity and credit analysts and with buy-side portfolio managers. Key member of the team that worked on the messaging and communication associated with numerous major M&A projects including:
- Developed and coordinated the FON/PCS tracking stock Recombination Roadshow (2004)
- Assisted in developing messaging for the Sprint Nextel merger (2005)
- Leadership position developing messaging for the spin-off of Sprint’s local business (Embarq) (2006)
- Assisted in developing messaging for the acquisitions of eight affiliate companies (2005 – 2007) From 2002 to 2007 (5 years) Captain - Officer @ Officer in the United States Marine Corps. Active duty from 1993 to 1997. Reserves 1997 to 2003. MOS - Military Intelligence.
While active duty was the S-2 (Battalion Intelligence Officer) for 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division. Led the intelligence section, consisting of 30 Marines including the battalion’s Scout/Sniper platoon, as a primary staff officer responsible for producing timely and tailored intelligence products for the 1,300 Marine unit during training exercises and real-world operations. Deployments to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in support of migrant operations (1993 and 1994). Deployment with BLT 2/6 in support of United Nations operations in 1995 and 1996 in Bosnia - Herzegovina.
While in reserves was a platoon commander for Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment out of Des Moines, Iowa, and was also the S-2A (Assistant Intelligence Officer) for 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division based out of Kansas City, Missouri. From 1993 to 1997 (4 years)
