Passionate acoustic engineer with 25+ years experience in acoustics, audio and electronics. Loves to solve problems rather than talk about them
Lead Acoustic Systems Engineer @ From September 2015 to Present (4 months) San Francisco Bay AreaProgram Owner "Acoustic Design" @ Responsible for management of Acoustics projects within the Technology & Research stream and collaborating & liaising with other technology fields. Responsible for strategic technology roadmapping within Acoustic technology. Contribution to all steps in product development cycle from idea to product development and technical marketing.
Recruited, build-up and developed a team of 4 acoustic engineers (3 internal, 1 external)
Moved project organisation into Sharepoint and developed know-how library in Sharepoint
Dissemination of acoustics knowledge within Sonova group through regular topical lectures and two-part mini course on "Acoustics for hearing instruments" held at various sites
Co-written supplier transducer specification for new directional microphone system
Developed purpose acoustic measurement system based on standard National Instruments hardware and Matlab GUI
Introduced multi-physics modelling language Modelica and environment Dymola for the efficient modelling of vibroacoustic feedback paths in hearing instruments
Patent creation and technical expertise From October 2011 to August 2015 (3 years 11 months) Senior Development Engineer @ Developed new directional microphone system that is much less sensitive to mismatch (both initial and drift) and has less noise
Build-up extensive library for network analogue modelling, including the transducer models from the suppliers, that runs either under LTSpice or in Matlab
Introduced FMM-BEM to model the effect of torso, head and ear on the in-situ microphone signals. This system is used to quickly judge the omni-directional and directional performance for new hearing instrument concepts during the design phase. From October 2009 to September 2011 (2 years) Acoustic Engineer @ Research and development to improve the vibro-acoustic performance of electrical power steering systems. Numerical modelling of noise excitation and transmission.
Modal analysis and time-domain simulation of flexible multibody systems using MSC Adams
FEA Analysis using NX Nastran and UGS NX as a pre-processor
Supervision of external project to model the vibration excitation from synchronous drive belts From December 2007 to September 2009 (1 year 10 months) Research Assistant/Associate @ Joint spatial audio research project with Digital Theater Systems. The goal was to develop new methods to generate multi-channel format from mono and stereo recording involving blind source separation and deconvolution. My responsiblity was the room acoustics/spatial audio part of the project. Resulted in PhD thesis and 5 journal publications. From September 2004 to September 2007 (3 years 1 month) Research Assistant @ Joint research on bending wave transducers with Fraunhofer IDMT. The goal was to better understand and improve the performance of Multi-Actuator-Panels that were used as loudspeakers for Wave-field-synthesis. Resulted in 1 journal publication and 1 patent application From September 2003 to September 2004 (1 year 1 month) Owner @ Installation of professional audio systems
