💼 Past Experience

Marlene Burns was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. She earned her BFA in Visual Art from the San Francisco School of the Arts in 1995, and moved to the Bay Area to work with independent artists and publishers. In 2001, she founded Kavanah Press with her husband, Dan Goldstein, and began publishing her own artworks, as well as teaching and leading workshops in the fields of fine art and art history. In 2018, Marlene was co-owner and artist of Marlene Burns Fine Arts, which united her studio and gallery locations and provides gallery and teaching access to her students.

Marlene Burns has a B.F.A., M.A., Fine Arts andStudio Arts degree from the University of Cincinnati, College of Design, Architecture and Art. MARLENE BURNES is a self-taught artist and artist advocate who has graduated from the University of Cincinnati, with a degree in Fine Arts and Studio Arts in 1971. Burns has been self-taught since 1971 and is currently aArtist in Residence at the Providence Athenaeum in Newport, RI.Burns has exhibited her work in solo exhibitions, group exhibitions and multiple venues statewide, including in Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois and Rhode Island. Her work has been included in shows at the Cincinnati Art Museum, the State Botanical Garden of Rhode Island, the National Museum of American Art, the Gallery of Fine Arts, and the famed Progressive Arts Center in Cincinnati, among other venues. MARLENE BURNES has several group affiliations, including memberships with the Rhode Island Artist Association and the Cincinnati Society of Art Critics. Her current exhibitions are "Homage to Newport" at the Newport Athenaeum, and "Who private wall?" at the Art Project in Newport, RI. [email protected] has had the distinction of being the first person to received the prestigious Stroud Award, given annually to an artist who has best displayed their work in an intransigent and innovative manner. MARLENE BURNES was honored by the Stroud Award Committee in 1999 and has received numerous other awards and grants throughout her career, including the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and the Ohio Arts Council Patron awards.
