Margaret Beauchamp's education began with a B.A. from the University of California, San Diego in 1980. After completing her undergraduate education, she attended the University of California, Berkeley for two years, where she earned a Master's in Urban Studies and Planning. Margaret Beauchamp then returned to UCSD and completed her graduate studies, earning her doctorate in 1984.After completing her graduate studies, Beauchamp worked as a Development Specialist at the University of California, San Diego from 1984-1988. From 1988-1996, she worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of Notre Dame, where she was the College Professor for Planning and Development. From 1996-2003, she was the Associate Professor at the University of Texas at Austin.In 2003, Beauchamp moved to the University of Utah, where she became the Assistant Professor of Planning and Development. In 2009, she became the Professor of Planning and Development at Colorado State University. In 2016, she became the Professor of Planning and Development at the University of Texas at Austin.Since 2004, Margaret Beauchamp has been a Fellow of the American Planning Association. She has also been a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Planning and Development. Margaret Beauchamp has been awarded several accolades, including the prestigious San Francisco Award from the American Planning Foundation and the National Planning Institute Award.
