From May 2014 to Present (1 year 8 months) Vice President, IT Development @ I led a globally distributed team of more than 700 resources, including over 5 development sourcing partners, responsible for design, development and delivery of flexible, high quality, and cost effective technical solutions to enable DIRECTV competitiveness and to facilitate business capabilities.
I was responsible for executing the application sourcing initiative that included vendor selection, transition planning, and execution & implementation of multiple sourcing models. This initiative provided over $30M in savings over a 4 year period and much needed capacity flexibility, enabling the IT organization to increase their IT Capital spending by over 100%, while at the same time improving quality by over 70% (in defect density). Under my direction my team implemented an effective governance and relationship management structure for strategic sourcing partners to ensure value realization and sustainable continuous improvement. My leadership drove the organizational change management that delivered the successful transition and culture transformation needed for a successful sourcing initiative. From 2010 to 2014 (4 years) Senior Director IT Development @ Responsible for the technical development and delivery (including requirements, design, development, implementation, and maintenance) of all IT applications supporting various business functions, including CRM, DIRECTV.com, offers, credits and commitments, financial systems, and back-end systems (e.g. Middleware).
I consolidated and restructured 5 disparate development teams, into a single team structure creating common processes & standards, focusing on improving quality and time to market. From 2008 to 2010 (2 years) Director IT @ Director of IT Enterprise Integration for DIRECTV, Responsible for the enterprise integration team that completed the first SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) implementation, enabling DIRECTV to transition into a near real-time IT enterprise, which today is the backbone to IT applications From 2003 to 2008 (5 years) Director IT @ Director of IT Enterprise Architecture for DIRECTV. I was a member of the leadership team that created DIRECTV’s first Architecture team in IT. I helped establish and define Architecture’s role in IT. Additionally, I established, organized and managed the Architecture Review Board, which established architectural standards and evaluated new technologies. From 2000 to 2003 (3 years) Senior IT Manager @ Senior Manager of IT Commission Systems for DIRECTV. I managed two development teams responsible for the full life cycle of applications used to calculate programmer payments and commissions to dealers and manufacturers. The commission team had been struggling for an extended period, resulting in six month payment delays to dealers. Within twelve months, by methodically adding process improvements and initiating standards, I transformed this team around into an effective organization. I brought in leadership and oversight needed to identify the necessary skill-sets and resources required to implement sustainable improvements. From 1998 to 2000 (2 years) Manager IT @ I managed a development team responsible for the full life cycle of the Supplier Management System used to calculate programmer payments. The team worked under extreme pressure to quickly incorporate new functionalities in order to support new contract deals during a fast growth period for DIRECTV, during which 1 million customers were being added annually. I was also responsible for running and maintaining production for calculating monthly payments and generating invoices for all content providers used by DIRECTV. From 1997 to 1998 (1 year) Senior Systems Analyst @ I was part of a development team responsible for creating a new application for calculating programmer payments. I was a key developer responsible for design and development of UI screens, creating a calculation engine for codifying contract terms, as well as development and optimization of DB stored procedures for business rules and invoice generation. From 1995 to 1997 (2 years) Software Specialist @ I was a software specialist consultant assigned to supported the Southern California aerospace industry. Major assignments were with Hughes Aerospace, Lockheed Martin Corporation and DIRECTV. Also supported development for the International Space Station through McDonnell Douglas Corporation and the Rocketdyne Division of Rockwell International. From 1989 to 1994 (5 years) Member of Technical Staff @ I was a member of a two person software development team that created a proprietary network sniffer for JPL.
