📖 Summary
I'm a data scientist at OpenSignal, where my job is to make sense of large amounts of crowdsourced mobile sensors data and to slice it, group it, stack it, unstack it, plot it, package it, filter it and also design and implement algorithms to gather it, clean it and process it. I'm more of a mathematician than a computer scientist, but I like algorithms more than I like proofs. My PhD research on group testing was like finding a needle in a haystack. Literally. More concretely, I was developing and studying algorithms to find carriers of rare diseases before these can spread, faulty components of a sensor network, or items to suggest in recommendation systems like those powering Pandora, Spotify, or Amazon. I was also writing papers about them. (Eventually I did find my needles and got my PhD.) I know lots about little and (more than) little about lots, I like talking about things I don't know and the only use I ever found for topology was classifying all sports using homeomorphically spherical objects as uninteresting. No one who dined at my place ever said no to a second invitation.Data Scientist @ From February 2015 to Present (11 months) Software Development Intern @ I worked in the Simulink Model Management team, whose role is to design, develop and improve the tools available to users to manage, share and optimise large Simulink projects. My work focussed on devising algorithms to explore and graphically represent file dependencies in Simulink projects, and on implementing solutions to facilitate the sharing of these projects. My contributions in both areas have been fruitful, and produced features that will be included in future releases of the product. From June 2014 to September 2014 (4 months) Marker for the course Complex Networks @ From September 2013 to December 2013 (4 months) Bristol, United KingdomPostgraduate representative member of the Science Faculty Quality Enhancement Team (FQET) @ The Faculty Quality Enhancement Team is a committee comprising academics from various Schools in the Faculty of Science, as well as a postgraduate students' representative. Its role is to visit several Schools within the Faculty and meet with students and members of staff in order to assess various practices and to evaluate the quality of the learning experience of students, possibly recommending actions to the Schools. From March 2013 to March 2013 (1 month) Marker for the course Complex Networks @ From October 2012 to February 2013 (5 months) Teaching Assistant for the course Calculus 1 @ Duties comprised tutoring, marking set exercises and going through exercise classes with first-year Physics students, possibly covering some minor theoretical topics to integrate what had been presented during lectures. From February 2012 to May 2012 (4 months) PhD, Mathematics @ University of Bristol From 2011 to 2015 MSc Applicable Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Distinction @ LSE From 2010 to 2011 Laurea triennale (BSc), Mathematics, 110/110 cum Laude @ Sapienza Università di Roma From 2006 to 2009 Leonardo Baldassini is skilled in: Algorithms, Java, Python, pandas, Apache Spark, Sqoop, Data Science, Data Analysis, Big Data, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics, Probability Theory, Information Theory, R, Machine Learning
