After completing his studies at Webb School of Knoxville in 1977-1980, Wright attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff from 1981-1983, and then the University of Southern California from 1983-1987. Wright was educated at Duffield School in London, England in 1957-1958. He then attended King's College, Cambridge, where he earned a Master's degree in Economics in 1962.
